This is the official 2009 mock draft. If you want to participate in the draft, please read the rules below.
Draft Rules and Scoring System:
  • AT THE TOP OF YOUR DRAFT, PLEASE STATE IF YOU WANT TO POST A FREE OR PAID DRAFT. Paid draft is $5.
  • Please only post one mock draft. You can edit the draft until 10pm Friday night. (time may be negotiable)
  • Please keep all discussion about mock drafts posted to the original suggestion thread. You can use this thread for questions. They will be moved to this post after answered.
  • Entries should include: (a) 32-player round one mock plus (b) the 8 Cardinal picks - for #31, #63, #95, #131, #167, #204, #240 and #254.
  • The scoring system will use a lowest points possible format. If you miss your player's position by 3 spots, then you will have earned 3 points. For example, if you say that Percy Harvin will be picked #18 and he is picked #14, then you earned 4 points. If he was picked #28 overall, you will have earned 10 points.
  • For every player that you successfully pick for the Cards, you will earn a 10 point bonus to be used to lower your score.
If you wish to pay for your draft via paypal, please put your ASFN screenname in the subject of the paypal. Paypal address is [email protected]. You must make payment arrangements no later than Thursday to qualify for the paid draft.

a suggestion. The mock should be done with no trade scenarios. That would be pretty hectic for the person doing the scoring especially because the Cards are likely to be involved in a draft day trade. Now,if Boldin is dealt prior to Saturday, everyone has a chance to edit their mock, but , after the deadline we should let everything stand as is. Just a suggestion.

oops, sorry about that. Please move to original suggestion thread.

If you're scoring by where a player is chosen in the draft then trades won't matter. It doesn't matter who picks the player just what position they're taken.

Free Draft

Here goes nothing. Never done this before, should be interesting.
Edit- 2nd and 3rd round picks.

  • Lions
Matt Stafford, QB, Georgia

Obvious choice for the Lions. Lions should have him signed before the draft even starts. He will sit for a year behind Culpepper
  • Rams
Jason Smith, OT, Baylor

The Rams need an OT to take the place of Pace and are able to grab the best tackle in the draft.
  • Chiefs
Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

Best defensive player in the draft, Chiefs run the card up.
  • Seahawks
Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

This is very tough as the Seahawks will chose between Monroe, Sanchez, and Crabtree. Walter Jones is not getting any younger and they feel they can wait to get a QB whether it’s later in this years draft or next year.
  • Browns
Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

The Browns are in need of a WR with Stallworth more than likely headed to jail for quite some time and Braylon Edwards more than likely traded. Once the Browns make the pick they get on the phone with the Giants and Ravens and try to get back in the 1st round and take Pettigrew to replace Winslow Jr.
  • Bengals
Andre Smith, OT, Alabama

The Bengals are hoping the Seahawks take Sanchez so they can get the safer pick in Monroe but instead are stuck taking Smith. They absolutely need to upgrade their line and this pick gets them moving in the right direction.
  • Raiders
Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

This is a real tough pick. The Raiders need help in many places and are tempted by Jeremy Maclin, but decide to get the top defensive lineman in the draft.
  • Jaguars
Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri

The Jags are tempted by Sanchez but they just gave David Garrard a huge contract last season and need to get him some more weapons. This is the first pick I could see being traded. The Jags hope they can get the Redskins and the Jets in a bidding war for the right to pick Sanchez.
  • Packers
Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU

This pick will either be Jackson or B.J. Raji. The Packers go with Jackson because they need another DE for their move to the 3-4 and have Ryan Pickett at DT.
  • 49ers
Aaron Maybin, DE, Penn St.

The 49ers are intrigued by Sanchez but decide to continue to build their defense. Maybin can either play the DE position or stand up and play OLB. If the Jags use their pick this is the next one that could be dealt for Sanchez.
  • Bills
Michael Oher, OT, Ole Miss

First big surprise of the draft. Since they dealt Peters to the Eagles they need some help along the line and with this draft heavy on defense they gamble by taking the next best OT.
  • Broncos
B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College

The Broncos can’t believe their luck and run as fast as they can to get the top DT in the draft. They are in desperate need of help along the defensive line. I don’t buy that they are interested in Sanchez. I think they believe they can win with Orton.
  • Redskins
Mark Sanchez, QB, USC

You would think you saw a card get turned in quick with the Broncos just wait for the Redskins when they realize they didn’t need to trade up to get their QB. They will look to move Campbell, possibly to the 49ers, but he could stay for the year as Sanchez learns the new system.
  • Saints
Chris Wells, RB, Ohio St.

The Saints have many needs but decide to get a replacement for Duece as get another back to team up with Reggie Bush.
  • Texans
Brian Cushing, LB, USC

The Texans are going to try to trade back, possibly to the Eagles so they can get Moreno, but in the end can’t make a deal. They have their choice of USC linebackers and go with Cushing because of his versatility.
  • Chargers
Eben Britton, OT, Arizona

This pick could very well be Rey Maualuga but the Chargers help build their line instead.
  • Jets
Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas St.

The Jets are unable to move up to get Sanchez so they take the next best QB available. Freeman is an extreme boom or bust player.
  • Broncos (from Bears)
Everette Brown, DE, Florida St.

Broncos continue to overhaul their defense and get a DE/OLB prospect in Brown who should contribute right away.
  • Buccaneers
Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi

Bucs are torn between Jerry and the other 2 USC linebackers. If the Jets decide to pass on Freeman this could be where he falls.
  • Lions (from Cowboys)
William Beatty, OT, Connecticut

The Lions need people to help protect their $70 million (just guessing that’s what Stafford will get) man. With the run on tackles they grab one before it is too late.
  • Eagles
Knowshon Moreno, RB, Georgia

The Eagles want him bad and may try to trade up for him. If he is already gone look for them to try to trade out of this pick.
  • Vikings
Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers

The Vikings need some receivers and have their pick of the 2nd tier. I think Britt could be the best of them.
  • Patriots
Rey Maualuga, LB, USC

Don’t know how he falls this far but the Pats get lucky. They could look at one of the other USC linebackers but Rey is the best of the bunch,
  • Falcons
Clay Matthews, LB, USC

They are tempted by Pettigrew but they will wait on a tight end and grab the best LB available.
  • Dolphins
Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio St.

The Dolphins will go one of two ways, either a corner or a receiver. Since Parcells is still at the helm, they go defense.
  • Ravens
Darrius Heyward-Bey, WR, Maryland

The Ravens could just as easily go for a corner but want to get Flacco another weapon to throw to since they don’t seem to be willing to give up what the Cards want for Quan.
  • Colts
Hakeem Nicks, WR, North Carolina

The Colts are hoping one of the top running backs fall but don’t feel Donald Brown is the right guy for them so they take Nicks to help replace Harrison. Don’t rule out a corner like Butler (UConn) or Davis (Illinois).
  • Bills (from Eagles)
Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma St.

Huge steal here, kind of hoping he would fall to the Cards but the Bills snap him up.
  • Giants
Percy Harvin, WR, Florida

They need a receiver and I don’t see the Cards dealing Boldin to them. Harvin is the top receiver left on the board.
  • Titans
Vonte Davis, CB, Illinois

They were hoping one of the receivers would fall but instead go with a great value pick in Davis.
  • Cardinals
Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee

To be honest, I don’t know why I didn’t have him picked earlier and don’t really feel like going over it, maybe later. He could potentially fall because of a poor 40 time and if available the Cards would be stupid to pass up. Once again, this is probably 1 in 100 chance of happening.
  • Steelers
Alex Mack, C, Cal
The Steelers have their choice of centers. Take Mack over Unger.

63
Jarron Gilbert, DE, San Jose St.
The best RB on the board is Shonn Greene which could be the pick, Gilbert is somehow still sitting there and the Cards get another guy who can rush the passer to help shore up the defense.
95
A.Q. Shipley, C, Penn St.
This may be a little early to take Shipley but the Cards are worried he won't make it to their next pick. He will compete with Sendlein right away.

131
Chase Coffman, TE, Missouri
167
Phillip Hunt, DE, Houston
204
Ian Johnson, RB, Boise St.
240
Brian Hoyer, QB, Michigan St.
254
Sam Allen, OT, Grand Valley St

Hope you enjoy.

My entry money is already in. Now, here's the mock that I THINK will happen, not necessarily what I hope will happen. I included trades, but given how this is going to be scored, the team doesn't even matter. It's all in the position. Here we go:

1-Detroit Lions: Matthew Stafford, QB, UGA
2-St. Louis Rams: Jason Smith, OT, Baylor
3-Kansas City Chiefs: Tyson Jackson, DE, LSU
4-Denver Broncos: Mark Sanchez, QB, USC
5-Cleveland Browns: Aaron Curry, OLB, Wake Forest
6-Cincinnati Bengals: Andre Smith, OT, Alabama
7-Oakland: Jeremy Maclin, WR, Missouri
8-Jacksonville Jaguars: Eugene Monroe, OT, UVA
9-Green Bay Packers: B.J. Raji, DT, BC
10-San Francisco 49ers: Aaron Maybin, DE/OLB, PSU
11-Buffalo Bills: Brian Orakpo, DE, UT
12-Seattle Seahawks: Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech
13-Washington Redskins: Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi
14-New Orleans Saints: Malcolm Jenkins, CB, OSU
15-Houston Texans: Brian Cushing, OLB, USC
16-San Diego Chargers: Robert Ayers, DE, Tennessee
17-New York Jets: Josh Freeman, QB, K-State
18-Seattle Seahawks: Chris Wells, RB, OSU
19-Tampa Bay Bucs: DJ Moore, CB, Vanderbilt
20-Detroit Lions: Eben Britton, OT, Arizona
21-Philadelphia Eagles: Knowshon Moreno, RB, UGA
22-Minnesota Vikings: Percy Harvin, WR, Florida
23-New England Patriots: James Laurinaitis, ILB, OSU
24-Atlanta Falcons: Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC
25-Miami Dolphins: Clay Matthews, OLB, USC
26-Baltimore Ravens: Brandon Pettigrew, TE, OSU
27-Indianapolis Colts: Peria Jerry, DT, Mississippi
28-Buffalo Bills: William Beatty, OT, Uconn
29-New York Giants: Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
30-Tennessee Titans: Everette Brown, DE/OLB, FSU
31-Arizona Cardinals: Donald Brown, RB, UConn
32-Pittsburgh Steelers: Alex Mack, C, Cal

For the entire Cards draft, here you go:

2nd-Marcus Freeman, OLB, OSU
3rd-Fili Moala, DT, USC
4th-Gerald McRath, ILB, Southern Miss
5th-Brandon Underwood, FS, Cincinnati
6th-Ra’shon Harris, DT, Oregon
7th(a)-Andrew Means, WR, UI
7th(b)-Maurice Evans, DE, PSU

I'll definitely be editing...I think ;)

Just a Cards draft, no time to do a full first tonight.

31 LB - Larry English - I think they would even take him over Brown. Although I am starting to think English and Brown wont be here come draft day.
63 RB - Andre Brown - Think Hightower build with way more speed.
95 WILB - Jason Williams - Good Blitzer, good in coverage, and think Dansby in terms of athletic ability but 2 inches shorter.
131 FS - Chris Clemons - Superior athlete.
167 CB - Joe Burnett - Return man extrodinaire
204 DE - Everette Pedescleaux - Right out of the box 3-4 Dlinemen
240 WR - Tiquan Underwood - Lott needs to be his new best Friend, our new WR coach was his OC and likes the kid a lot.
254 OG - Ray Feinga - Violent dude and a Grimm pick. We let Grimm pick a project every year IMO in the 7th round.
