Last 3 drafts the 1st selection has always been on offense and that's not including the 1st traded for Hollywood. It's not like that side of ball has been neglected for years, let's be honest. I guess this regime must think its finally prove it or be gone time for K1.

Of course, this number is skewed and isn’t a straight line across the board. The players taken in the first and second rounds will definitely be on the opening day roster, barring some unforeseen injury or something. But the players taken in the sixth and seventh rounds may have only a 10% or 15% chance, at least in the first year or two.

1st round - about 50% of players drafted in the 1st round developed into solid NFL starters.

2nd round - about 33% of players drafted in the 2nd round developed into solid NFL starter. From here, it dropped by 50% per round.

3rd round - about 16%.

4th round - about 8%.

5th round - about 4-5%.

6th round - about 2%.

7th round - about 1-2%.

You are making a strong case for shortening the draft, which the NBA did years ago.

I'm not sure NFL fans would be in favor of this.

The NFL draft was shortened to seven rounds in 1994. Before that, the draft had a longer format, with the number of rounds varying over time. The first draft had nine rounds. The NFL tried an eight-round draft in 1993 before settling on the seven-round format in 1994, according to ESPN.
