It used to be even longer

The NFL draft was shortened to seven rounds in 1994. Before that, the draft had a longer format, with the number of rounds varying over time. The first draft had nine rounds. The NFL tried an eight-round draft in 1993 before settling on the seven-round format in 1994, according to ESPN.

So do you think the NFL draft should be shortened again?

First Monti trades back in the fifth when I was just about to cut the lawn. Totally screwed me up. I have a senior golf tournament on Monday and need to get to the range. (Popped up a couple of drives Thursday and need to work that out). I now missed our fifth round pick and my day is messed up. Well back to the lawn.

I'm happy with the length of the NFL.

I guess I'm not a fan of referring to late round draft picks and free agents as “camp fodder”.

These are young players trying to make their dreams come true.
My point wasn't to disrespect any players

It was past the 5th round the pool thins out fast

So we should be keeping our 5th picks or even trade up from the lower rounds

Less picks, more chance to make the team or have an impact

I never thought otherwise for a millisecond.

Monti probably had a lot of players remaining he liked with a similar grade, thus adding another draft pick was like getting a jump on free agency.
