My sister saw a flash in the distance the other night and asked me what it was, lol! Funny how it took her only three months of being here and out of Jersey to forget what stormy weather looks like.

Everything still looking like we are gonna get slammed this week. This is from the latest forecast discussion -

FLASH FLOOD WATCHES WILL NEED TO BE POSTED AS WE SUSPECT THERE WILL BE A HOST OF HYDROLOGICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS EVENT.

I have a friend in the NWS and he says they have already started releasing water from some of the lakes in anticipation of this rain event to prevent any significant problems

Mike, not sure if you are willing to make the drive, but there are always great washes up here in North Scottsdale, around the Pinnacle Peak area. There are also terrific washes in along the Cave Creek/Carefree area.

Mike, Sarah loved the new weather term 'Olbinski.' Sent an e-mail to Gary Woodall at NWS. I'm going to make this one stick!

I got a NWS meteorologist to use the term 'Olbinski' today when speaking to another meteorologist. Meteorology being somewhat of a slang-based business, the other meteorologist didn't question the term. I think it may stick there.

Now on to the Weather Channel. Mike, remember Tim from azcentral? That's where he works.

It's been raining non-stop for the past 6 hours, and right at this moment it's coming down as hard as it has all day! I mean SHEETS wind-driven rain!! This is awesome!!! WOW!
And the really hard stuff isn't supposed to hit until Thursday night!!!!!

I tried to take a picture of my putting green (which the bottom tier is completely under water) but it was too dark. The whole area is just FLOODED around it and every hole is overflowing with water.

It started raining here about 4pm. At 10pm we got POUNDED. I live on a hill and the water carved a couple of channels in the front yard down to the road. I'm about to put on my grubbies, grab a hoe and a broom and get to work. I have a wash in back of the house and I don't even want to think about what it looked like last night.

The meaning has already shifted. Originally it was used to describe the rare event when a chance for rain in Phoenix exceeded 80 percent for five consecutive days. Now, apparently it means an 80 percent chance for rain or snow any place in Arizona. The term is as fluid as "monsoon."

So today we are experiencing an Olbinski Pattern. Tomorrow it will be a Full Olbinski -- 100 percent chance of rain. By Saturday morning it will be a Fading Olbinski.
