Cardinals Stadium Groundbreaking on April 12

The groundbreaking celebration for the new multipurpose stadium in Glendale will be held on Saturday, April 10 starting at 10 a.m.

The stadium will be home to the Arizona Cardinals and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl as well as the site for future Super Bowls and other events. The facility, to be operated by the Arizona Tourism and Sports Authority, is the most modern in North America and will feature a retractable roof and a roll-out natural grass field.

Ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. and will include:

Jim Grogan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Tourism and Sports Authority;
Ted Ferris, President/CEO of the Tourism and Sports Authority;
William Bidwill, President of the Arizona Cardinals;
Michael Bidwill, VP and General Counsel for the Arizona Cardinals;
Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs;
Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley and the Glendale City Council;
Leon Levitt, Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl;
John Junker, President of the Fiesta Bowl.

The community celebration will also feature Arizona Cardinals players, the Cardinals Cheerleaders, bands, high school cheerleaders, and Pop Warner football players.

The location of the event will be on the site of the new stadium, Loop 101 and Bethany Home Road in Glendale. Parking for the event will be at 91st Avenue and Maryland.

The groundbreaking will signal the start of one of the state’s largest construction projects in the last two decades. The construction phase of the project will last three years and will create 3,500 high-paying jobs.

The event is going to be covered live by KDUS AM, ESPN Radio, Cox Cable Chan. 11 in Phoenix and in Glendale on Chan. 11.

Man...I'm not going to be able to go now (flying from Denver)...

Anyone going to tape the TV broadcast, or will it be able for download?

I'll be there in spirit.

Dear Pantone; you can actually watch the groundbreaking ceremonies through the webcam of the Phoenix Coyotes arena which is under construction.

www.glendaleaz.com/Coyotes

once you get there, click on 'live arena camera'. since the Coyotes arena is just north of the stadium site, you have to use the viewfinder(on the bottom) & use your mouse & drag in a box a bit to the south & east of the Phoenix Coyotes arena. Once you do that, you're all set.

This might sound completely naive but . . .

Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get to the new stadium site from the East Valley (the I-60 freeway, more specifically). I recently moved back here and with all the new freeways I'm sure there must be an easier way than the one I'm familiar with. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, anybody who wants to carpool from Mesa/Tempe feel free to PM me.

Take the I-60 to the I-10 north. Stay on the I-10 to the 101 North ( around 99th ave on the I-10 ). take the 101 North to Glendale exit and the follow the signs.

Technically...I-10 runs East to West not North to South. Although, at the intersection of the 60 and 10, the 10 is running N/S. So, the exit may say I-10 West to Phoenix.

You will want to stay to the left when you get on I-10. It will split for I-17 North - Flagstaff. Stay to the left and head through downtown and the deck park tunnel.

You wll go over the I-10/ I-17 stack interchange heading West toward LA. Then take the 101 north around 99th ave like Jason said.

Just added a little more explanation.

And to make sure Big Red

doesn't mess up the cheerleader trials at the Cards facility tomorrow afternoon, the PR department did this to him:

Tempe, Arizona - Arizona Cardinals mascot Big Red will
participate in the 18th annual "Special Day for Special
Kids" event on Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park in Scottsdale.

This free event, presented by the Scottsdale Sunrise
Rotary Club, offers 250 of the Valley's special needs
children, underprivileged youth, and their families the
chance to participate in free train rides, carnival
activities, carousel rides, face painting, and a
petting zoo.

Ted Farris

I remember a, LONG TIME AGO, the assistant principle of my elementary school (Sunburst, Glendale, AZ) was named Ted Farris. This TSA guy can't be the same one...is he?

Tall skinny dude with short curly grey(ing) hair. He wore a long necklace and we (as pre-teenagers would) called him Ted Fairy (he sounded like LIBERACE, and looked like his brother).

Any confirmation or otherwise would be appreciated!

We have decided not to attend tomorrow groundbreaking... ( yes I said we wouldn't but.....)

Kids have a "thing" at Peoria Sports Complex tomorrow at the same time!! It's for the school district.

We will be there in spirit, and ,when we ar at PSC, I will be wearing my daughters TILLMAN jersey ( my jersey is of a player that help build the staduim but no longer there).

We rode past the site today, so OUR spirit is there!!!!!!

I saw that it will be on GLENDALE channel 11... Well I get PEORIA channel 11.. HOPE.....I will have the VCR going!!!!!
