Cardinals Stadium Groundbreaking on April 12
The groundbreaking celebration for the new multipurpose stadium in Glendale will be held on Saturday, April 10 starting at 10 a.m.
The stadium will be home to the Arizona Cardinals and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl as well as the site for future Super Bowls and other events. The facility, to be operated by the Arizona Tourism and Sports Authority, is the most modern in North America and will feature a retractable roof and a roll-out natural grass field.
Ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. and will include:
Jim Grogan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Tourism and Sports Authority;
Ted Ferris, President/CEO of the Tourism and Sports Authority;
William Bidwill, President of the Arizona Cardinals;
Michael Bidwill, VP and General Counsel for the Arizona Cardinals;
Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs;
Glendale City Manager Ed Beasley and the Glendale City Council;
Leon Levitt, Chairman of the Fiesta Bowl;
John Junker, President of the Fiesta Bowl.
The community celebration will also feature Arizona Cardinals players, the Cardinals Cheerleaders, bands, high school cheerleaders, and Pop Warner football players.
The location of the event will be on the site of the new stadium, Loop 101 and Bethany Home Road in Glendale. Parking for the event will be at 91st Avenue and Maryland.
The groundbreaking will signal the start of one of the state’s largest construction projects in the last two decades. The construction phase of the project will last three years and will create 3,500 high-paying jobs.
The event is going to be covered live by KDUS AM, ESPN Radio, Cox Cable Chan. 11 in Phoenix and in Glendale on Chan. 11.
