Your midfield couldn't hold possession at all today. Whether that's just superior skill from Arsenal or lacking skill by your midfield, that was the big difference, especially in the first half.

The start of the 2nd half showed some life from Newcastle, but the strikers (including Owen) were nowhere to be found. I love, love, love Arsenal's defensive back players--Clichy, Toure and Sagna are pretty good. Oh, how I wish the US National Team could play with a defense like that.

Newcastle frankly was overmatched. Fabregas being back definitely helps and Van Persie was all over the place in the 1st half. Adebayor had a bad game, but you could see he was trying to get others involved. Nasri was very solid, but regardless of his goal, I'm still trying to like Denilson and having a tough time, he gives the ball away ALL THE TIME. It wasn't as blatant in this game because Nasri, Eboue and Fabregas were holding possession.

Like I said, we had a star starting Midfielder (who scored this past week) sold two days before the match. We moved a defender to midfield to sub for him and moved a bench player in to replace the defender. Plus, Obafemi Martins, a top-shelf striker, and Damien Duff, another starter, went down to minor injures during the match with Bolton. So, yeah, the team was torn apart before going in for a tough match away. I expected a fiasco, and there it was.

I'll warn you not to take too much from this game for Arsenal. If they hadn't played as well as they did, it would have been a huge cause for concern; the expectation coming in was for a romp. Once you do it against a team not in such disarray, then you can use it as a lithmus test. It kills me to say it, but we are in chaos in a bad way right now, and unless we bring in a few players AND get some back from injury, we're going to have a hard time to come.

Not saying it's all Keegan's fault. I think he'll get frustrated with Ashley and resign.

Ah, I see. That may happen, but with his personality being the way it is, I think he'll stick it out. He's cut and run unexpectedly before, so I think he'll be very stubborn in staying with it even through tough times now.

Damn, that was fast. He barely made it to Labor Day.

Keegan on the brink
Boss fails to take training after meeting with board
Last updated: 2nd September 2008

Sky Sports News understands Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has left his position at St James' Park.

Keegan returned for his second stint as Magpies boss in January, but rumours suggest he could be leaving his role.

Sky Sports News understands Keegan did not take training on Tuesday and met with board members on Monday.

Speculation is claiming that Keegan has been unhappy with the club's transfer dealings during the summer and is ready to leave St James' Park.

The Magpies have made several signings in recent weeks, but doubts have persisted over Keegan's future at the helm.

Since replacing Sam Allardyce at the start of this year, Keegan has won six of his 21 games in charge.

Despite Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Arsenal, Newcastle had made a bright start to the new campaign, following up a draw at champions Manchester United by beating Bolton Wanderers at home.

Newcastle also set up a Carling Cup third round meeting with holders Tottenham following last week's 3-2 extra-time win at Coventry City.

If true (NOTHING has been confirmed) it will be completely, COMPLTELY ownership's fault. Ashley has made Bill Bidwill look generous. In English soccer, you either have to be prepared to spend money, or be prepared to lose big. Sadly, money and victory go hand-in-hand in the Premiership. Ashley hamstrung Keegan, and has screwed the roster entering the season. Crappy situation all 'round.

Balls, Newcastle have spent plenty of money over the last few years. I'm not blaming Keegan for where they are but they should certainly be challenging for 5th place every year with the amount they spend. Newcastle's problem lies with the fact they waste money on over-rated players a lot.

Don't talk about what you know NOTHING about. Ashley has only recently taken over, and all that misspent money went down before he bought the team. True, he inherited a lot of those problems, but neither he nor Keegan are the ones responsible for them. Past mistakes do not mean that you should utterly give up on a season before it even gets going, which is what Ashley has tried to do. Keegan has not had a major flop signing, and neither has Ashley. After reading the latest, I wouldn't blame Keegan in the least for walking out. It turns out that, not only was Ashley not trying to spend the money he needed to spend, he tried to sell Owen. How idiotic would that have been?

Thankfully Keegan is willing to fight through the crap, because he has not quit nor has he been sacked. Still, Ashley needs to get it together or his club will end up losing money by sucking again. Ugh.

What he need to do if that is the case is stop covering the backs of Ashley (and maybe Wise, which i think might be the real reason behind all of this). The Milner thing was a shambles and for KK to come out and say it was his choice stinks of ***** to me. The Wise appointment was start of all of this and the talk about big signings last week from KK has left him looking like an idiot.

Having said that he is (for the time being at least) still there and as long as that is the case there is still chance he will do something good for you (you know, second in the lge or lose a cup final or something ;) )

all very very funny though from a mackems point of veiw though.

Yeah, I think King Kev is very careful not to betray the fans or the team (not management) this time around, and he's really trying his damdest, without help from Ashley. The management is just being ******** right now, and I feel for him.

Wise would be perfect as Newcastle manager. I hated that ****** when he was at Millwall and Leeds. He'd fit right in with the skunks. :D

wasnt that long ago mate.... but if its history you are talking about you are in for rought ride if we compare our historic trophy rooms.

Yeah, I don't understand the arrogance of the Newcastle fan. They haven't won a major trophy since 1955 and many of them go around like they are a perrennial Top 4 club.

I love what's happening to the owner of the Magpies, Ashley. He and his management staff (minus King Kev) apparently tried to sell everything but the kitchen sink (including Owen) without telling their manager. Then they figured he'd resign or be sacked and they'd promote Wise. Now the fans have staged a full-scale revolt, and reports have Ashley begging King Kev to stay. I love it (as long as he does stay, that is). King Kev took the job in good faith and the owner hasn't done right by him. I hope the fans force Ashley to keep him and give him the necessary money and power to get things done. Then, as long as we survive until the January transfer window, we'll be able to right the ship.

Newcastle
4 league titles (last in 1927)
6 FA Cups (last in 1955)
1 UEFA Cup (1969)

Sunderland
6 league titles (last in 1936)
2 FA Cups (Last in 1972)

Right now what is going on in Newcastle is a joke.. Keeg was a joke as a manager (the dude took how many years off and openly admits he never saw a game while he was away), Ashley is a joke of a manager... All they need right now is Santiago to come back from Real Madrid!

Sunderland is in a much more stable position imo even with all the Man U retreads.....
