Heard this on the Bickley radio show today.

When Karlos Dansby was told that the Cardinals new DC is James Bettcher his response was: Where did he come from?

I guess Bettcher did not make a big impression as LB coach last year (2013) when Karlos was with the Cards..

yes cause betcher was the OLB coach,at inside was mike caldwell
thats why he doesnt know him well

I watched the videos and I was impressed , Bettcher shows a good understanding of the X's and O's and the ability to communicate/interact well with others . I have to believe that BA sees the right stuff in this young coach .

A long time ago , an old ball coach recognized the "RIGHT STUFF" in a young want to be coach . The old ball coach was Bob Devaney , and the young want to be was Tom Osborne . Osborne had much less of a resume than Bettcher , yet Devaney promoted Osborne to OC , even though Tom had never even been a position coach . Four seasons later Devaney , now as AD promoted Tom to HC . Devaney never had to second guess or regret any of his gut instincts decisions he made about Tom Osborne .
Just Saying ; don't reach for the panic button yet !!!

I don't expect that you would care, but to an unbiased observer, I'd suggest that Dansby has a unique window into the Cards coaching staff because:

1) He was on the team last year
2) He was a leader of that team
3) He is no longer with the team but left on good terms
4) He's free to say whatever he likes.

Being in the NFL isn't like being in the insurance industry--it's a pretty tight brotherhood, and it wouldn't be surprising to have Dansby in some meeting rooms with Bettcher since they were in the defensive front-seven. If Bettcher seemed to leave no impression on Dansby, it isn't damning, but it's one more data point than we had before Jurecki called him up.

You can't really trust current players to put forward brutally honest opinions on their coaches. It'd be fun to ask John Abraham.

The reason I think BA hired him as DC and not a known DC is BA wants to be the one that found him if he does well. He wants to be able to say I mentored him and he is the product of my coaching skills/knowledge. It also give BA better control of the D side of things when he knows Bettcher may need guidance. Yes, I'm just grabbing at straws and throwing out conspiracy theories, but its fun. :D

For those who were outraged that we were promoting him under the rug and avoiding press conferences because we were embarrassed about the hire:

#AZCardinals will introduce new defensive coordinator James Bettcher today at 1:30 press conference. Bettcher was recently promoted to DC.
