I won't panic until I know what Bowles is doing but I'm really worried he's going to move us to a 4-3 and then discover Dan Williams, Calais Campbell and Darryl Washington fit a 3-4 much better than a 4-3.

But we'll see, they're all good players but I suspect they are much better off in the defense they were in.

Now just stay away from St. Louis.............. Cleveland is a lovely place and you can try and stick it to the Steelers

He's always ran a 3-4, except when he took over in Phili. They were already an established 4-3 so he kept that going. But if Bowles comes here, the 3-4 isn't changing.

Most of the players on D have played both 3-4 and 4-3, so if they're talented enough and the coords put them in position to be successful the D will be fine.

Big bummer. The guy did a great job here. Unfortunate things transpired as they did.

Some interesting notes on Horton from Mike Sando today:

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/89301/ray-horton-as-a-head-coaching-candidate

"Criticisms of Horton as a head coaching candidate have more to do with style than substance. He's a bit of a loose cannon the way Haley has sometimes been one. Some of the things Horton says publicly suggest he thinks he's smarter than everyone else. That was the impression Horton left when suggesting the Cardinals had outfoxed New England during a 20-18 victory in September.

Horton can come off as flippant. That approach isn't for everyone. Neither does it mean he would fare poorly as a head coach, or that someone shouldn't seriously consider him."

I am a huge Ray Horton fan. I wish to thank him for the great things that he brought to our defense during his short tenure here. I love his passion for the game, and his ability and willingness to study and determine the strengths and weaknesses of his players, then develop a scheme that plays to their strengths. I love that he had his players taking ownership of their performances, and occasional lacks thereof. I hope only the best for him.

I really feel that if Whiz had simply done the same things that Horton did by studying his players, and playing to their strengths, none of this would have happened. Life goes on however, and so too must we, because the Cardinals have a new FO and Staff and a new direction. They all deserve the same support that Whiz and company got when they first came here.

Yeah I know nothing about him so I hope that's true.

We've drafted for the 3-4

Seahawks here Horton comes . . .

Seattle brought back Dan Quinn almost immediately after Gus took the job in Jacksonville

He worked as their DL coach for a couple years and was the #2 guy when they interviewed for the DC position in 2009 behind Gus

He's spent the last 2 years at the University of Florida as their DC

I'm really happy with that addition - there is some rumor going around that Todd Wash, the current seahawks DL coach could go to Jax as the DC - if that happens then the talk is that Bryant Young would join the hawks as DL coach (he's been the protege of Quinn at Florida) .... that would make me very happy

Bryant Young and the DC with a background on the line, ken norton jr with the LBs and kris richard and pete carroll with the secondary

Not to say I wouldn't have loved to see what Horton would have brought to the seahawks - if nothing is to his liking maybe come in as a consultant for a year :D

However, with the basic structure they have in St.L and his familiarity with the division I would not want to see him land there - a much better hire than Rob Ryan

Why would they want to down-grade? They are a top 1 or 2 defense in the regular season AND the play-offs.

The Cardinals didn't even break the top ten in 2012 with our D.

I don't understand the Horton-love.

Typical Cardinals ownership. Let the guy go, who turned around a horrible defense into a top ten defense.:bang:

Looking from the outside in - Horton is a heckuva defensive coach

He did a great job at putting guys in the right position to have success, while masking some pretty noticeable talent voids .... his schemes and gameplans for pretty much every game was spot on

In a "passing league" pretty much every QB he faced had their worst day of the year

All of this despite knowing that your offense will not bail you out, will not sustain a drive to give you rest, not having a ton of quality depth to help offset getting winded and frequently facing short fields after turnovers

He did a wide variety of options and different ways to beat different guys

Absolutely did an A+ job in his time here

I'm very happy with how the staff is setting up in Seattle, but that doesn't make Horton a bad coach ....... Seattle this year ran a very simple scheme, didn't really do anything exotic - they just played .... I'm sure Horton would have helped them this year and I highly doubt he would have had Marcus Trufant continue to be the 5th man on blitz packages which was a negative play every time it was dialed up
