And we all know the defensive force that Cameroon is.:sarcasm: Serbs couldn't score on Poland, it'll be a little tougher vs germany, ghana. They'll probably make it to the next stage, but i dont think their offense is good enough to get them past any team in the 2nd round.

Oh, and by the way guys, I found an AWESOME bracket for the tournament:

http://videos.icnetwork.co.uk/m4/wallchartA3.pdf

It's from the British paper Daily Mirror, so the times aren't going to be reflected correctly for America, and it is really an ink hog if you are using your home printer, but I love the design, even if it's busy.

Remember this when New Zealand knocks out Netherlands ;)

Runner-up in both 1974 and 1978, the Clockwork Oranje haven't come close to hoisting the Jules Rimet trophy in 32 years. This is despite producing some of the world's most phenomenal players, including Dutch masters Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten and Dennis Bergkamp. The Dutch may have invented Total Football, but for decades the country hasn't had a clue about Total Chemistry. 2010 looks to be no different: electric midfielders Arjen Robben (if healthy) and Wesley Sneijder should provide sniper Robin van Persie with more than enough goal-scoring ammunition, as they did so ruthlessly during Holland's perfect 8-0 run in qualifying.

But Sneijder is prone to sullen, angry moods (think T.O. but balder) and van Persie did his bit to foster team harmony by recently lashing out at fellow striker Dirk Kuyt, saying the Liverpool workhorse doesn't even deserve to be on the field. Besides its dysfunctional locker room, the Dutch defense, anchored by 35-year-old captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst, tends to crumble faster than a stale piece of Gouda. And, of course, Dutch tradition is replete with big-game chokes (see Holland vs. Russia in the 2008 European Championships) that dwarf even the auto-asphyxiating efforts of mighty England. It all points to another swashbuckling but ultimately doomed World Cup performance for soccer's favorite almost-but-not-quite-champions.

I love this on ESPN

GROUP G

Would Cristiano Ronaldo even start on the 2010 Brazil team?

Brazil had no need for Ronaldinho's tricks.

Even though purists the world over are wailing about Brazil coach Dunga's betrayal of the holy Joga Bonito ("play beautifully") scripture by sacrificing step overs and flair in favor of defensive commitment, Brazil is again the team to beat.

I got a million bucks that says Cristiano Ronaldo does not start for Brazil lol

Robben out of opener
Van Marwijk admits injury is 'serious'
Last updated: 8th June 2010

Arjen Robben has been ruled out of Holland's World Cup opener against Denmark on 14th June and remains a major doubt for the remainder of the tournament.

The Bayern Munich winger suffered a hamstring injury late on in Saturday's friendly victory over Hungary in Amsterdam and has been undergoing intensive treatment ever since.

Robben has remained in the Netherlands for further physiotherapy while his team-mates travelled to South Africa with his World Cup dreams in the balance.

Now Holland coach Bert van Marwijk has accepted that his star man will not feature in their opening Group E clash and may not recover in time to play any part at all.

Netherlands will still advance to the knockout rounds because Group E is so weak, but not having Robben really hurts their chances of winning the tournament.

Nani is out for Portugal. Has there ever been a cup with this many big names out?

Broken collerbone btw out for entire tournament.

That should make the Portugal-Ivory Coast game even more fun to watch since the winner will probably move on.

Um everybody that follows football/soccer. There really is no debate about their defense.
I was actually trying to bring up the fact that somebody (might have been you, might not have been) was trying to say there was no way Serbia would let in more then 3 goals in the entire group stage.

I think Serbia will do well. I'll make my final predictions tomorrow or Thursday.

Is there not a site where we can all predict the group games??

i think we should all have a shot, could be interesting. The winner to carry the title of World Cup God Like Prediction King for four years of course :)

Robben needs to get back.... Otherwise it could be a quick exit after the group stage.

lol not really. If they weren't hosting the cup, South Africa would not even come CLOSE to even being in the tournament. Historically, host nations get a lot of calls and SA has been getting plenty of them in their warmups.
either way...mexico will need an excuse again. they won't make it much farther than the first game of the knockout stages....that's as good as they get even if they play the US lol. south africa played impressive in the confed cup. if any of the top 20 teams can choke against them, it would be mexico.

You're severely underrating Mexico, my friend. Good :)

I am loathe to admit it but Mexico indeed does look very good heading in to this tournament. It might be the first tournament outside of Mexico that they actually win a knockout game.

With all due respect, but ... (don't you just hate it when people say that?)

but, even if the atmosphere in the locker room drops down to hostility levels comparable with the one around Gaza right now, even if one of our guys gets so crazy he brings a bomb into the lockerroom and blows up everybodys right foot or even both eyes, even then we should be able to beat the Kiwi's ;) (gotta love the arrogance here. Sorry guys, just trashtalking a little).

By the way, who wrote this preview? Of course irritations will happen when you're sitting at each other's lips for a couple of weeks, but those irritations happen at every team. Van Persie by the way never said what is implied here, trust me, i've seen the interview.

It appears he'll be ready by then. He'll fly to South Africa this weekend, and might even be ready for the second group stage game, but they'll probably take it easy with him.

I just hope you lot turn up in the correct continent :biglaugh:

Have to say i agree. They knocked the ball about very well against England and despite getting beat looked pretty decent. They have looked even better since and are deffo a team that raises it game for the World Cup. No mugs thats for sure.

Wow. Clear cut favorite number 1 with an impressive win over Poland. That second goal is stunningly beautiful. Amazing.

OT: Maybe a stupid question, but how can you place a youtube movie inside a post? And not just the link?

so it looks like this, but add the forward slash in the second youtube tag
