I think the rule is they have to have been in the league for at least 5 years or they are restricted free agents with no CBA agreement. Knowing that:

Two guys I would love to have hear to use for depth in our secondary is Phillips Buchannon (Det) and/or Fabian Washington (Bal). Both are free agents after this year (unless resigned) and both are lightning quick. They are HUGE upgrades over Michael Adams and Ralph Brown. Shouldn't be very expensive either.

We need some depth guys who aren't on their last legs. A legit pass-rushing threat. I think we're okay offensively.

If I read the rules right, then Chike Okeafor is actually going to do something to help the team!

We he gets signed else where we will be able to sign someone for 4 million.

But there probably won't be anyone worth the money, so :mulli: on that idea.

Use it to sign our big name free agents to be.

If there is no CBA, we are limited who we can sign based off who we lose. Here's the deal: Ex. if Dansby signs a $10mil a year deal elsewhere we can only sign 1 player up to that same contract. The last 8 playoff teams are limited what they can do.

Probably why the Patriots tanked last week. They'll probably load up and kick everybody's ass next year...:D

I read the article like most of you, but it does not make sense. What about Chike and Mike Gandy. So what we lose a LT and a LB, but they do not sign with another team. Then does that imply that we can not use their salary on other people. Also we will be short a lot of people on the roster so how do we make up for it if we can not sign free agents ?

Something has to be wrong about some of these articles about Free Agency.

It's almost a moot point because we don't historically go after the big name free agents. We tend to look in the bargain bin and see what we can find. Also, with the draft success of Green/Whis, we can actually groom our own talent and not worry about what's out there. I'd rather focus on the draft than on free agency. It may behoove us to make some trades to get extra picks. I like Whisenhunt's ability to draft well during the 2nd day (Breaston, Timmy, Patrick, Toler, Hyphen and Will Davis come to mind).

I know this was posted before, but here it goes again.

Playoff teams five thru eight get a break to sign one player with a salary of $4,925,000 or more and any number of players with a first-year salary of no more than $3,275,000 and an annual increase of no more than 30 percent in the following years.

To me I would re-sign Dansby and Boldin.

 Ditto !! We need someone that has experience. Please stop the three man rush and work more on the fundamentals like tackling. We might have a good defense, but we do not know, because they always seem out of position.
