When Sutton and Grace overtly express stunned surprise that Melvin left the lefthander in to face Cameron, I knew then Melvin would soon be fired if what they feared came true.

Bam. First pitch. Bases loaded double. Then the revelation the pitcher has historically been lousy against right handers. All this with a guy ready to go in the bullpen.

Today, maybe not. Tomorrow? Next week? Don't know but it will be soon, I think.

Incredible... And, can anyone explain why Young was batting 2nd tonight? 'Course, I can't deal with him anywhere in the lineup - but 2nd?? It's almost as if Melvin is doing anything he can to get himself fired!

Melvin was absolutely stupid to bring in Gordon in a one-run game against the Brewers. Go with someone that has had some good run this season. I just can't take this lazy team/manager much longer.

My neighbor, who knows a lot more about baseball than me, said the same thing -- it strangely looks like Melvin is trying to get fired.

I hate to disagree, but I think Melvin is here until at least the All-Star break. Schu can be gone by next week, but management has been more than lenient with Melvin and probably will continue. I hope I am wrong.

I have been slow to go after Melvin as I am convinced he's not the sole reason form this team's dismal display of baseball... However, over the last 5-7 games, I've come to accept the fact that he simply has to go...
I also believe the D-backs have other issues that need to be addressed. But I can say now that Melvin is himself costing this team W's...

He really needs to be. This was a wasted GREAT outing, by a young pitcher pitching lights out. There was NO REASON , that the 7th inning should have happened. It's over managing and then not managing enough. Pitiful display.

Pena needed to be up and ready to go in that pivotal spot.

Melvin can't be fired because Sutton and Grace think he is the Mad Scientist. I disagree, I say he is a Freakin' Moron!

It almost looks like Gibson and Hale

Don't even understand what in the heck Melvin is doing. Start with why you'd put a guy with 2 rehab assignments only this year into a 1 run game? Two, why people can't execute basic fundamentals on this team? Three, what rhyme or reason is there to the batting order and where people hit? He just seems to have lost these guys. I think we need a butt kicker who creates a bit of uncertainty in the locker room and where people don't get complacent about their jobs.

Really "The Alchemist" would be a better name for Melvin. He just randomly tosses stuff together and hopes to get gold.

So if you have Pena pitch the 7th, who pitches the 8th?

Juan Gutierrez in the 7th, Pena in 8th, then Qualls.

Gutierrez has been pretty dependable this year (he only had one bad outing against LA on 4/11 and a blown save in Colorado). I do not see the reasoning behind bringing in someone during a one run game who just got back from his rehab assignment.

D'backs ownership isn't motivated by what goes on on the field. They're motivated by money.

Of course, they could do what Melvin's former team did -- promote him to Special Assistant to the GM and promote Chip Hale from the 3B coaching box to Manager.

Melvin has slipped from being a .500 Manager wherever he manages to being a below-.500 Manager.

Mediocre Manager. Mediocre team. Mediocre results.

Actually, this team has enough talent to be a legit threat in the West. They have above average starting pitching. Above average defense. And possess enough potential on offense to give the Dodgers a serious run.
The pen is a mess and they need help there desperately. And they need to figure out a move for Young. He remains the true achilles heal for this team and he needs to be shipped down or out...
And yes - Melvin now needs to go... But I wouldn't go so far as to say that they are a "mediocre team"...

When I included the description mediocre team in between mediocre manager and mediocre results, I was thinking of our batters' batting averages vs. the team that you mentioned, who passed us by last season and leads our division.

Dodgers -- five .300 hitters -- one under .240

M Ramirez .372
O Hudson .337
M Kemp .325
J Loney .313
A Ethier.306
R Furcal .250
C Blake .243
R Martin .205

D'backs -- one .300 hitter -- four under .240

F Lopez .333
M Reynolds .269
C Tracy .266
J Upton .254
S Drew .205
C Jackson .197
C Young .190
C Snyder .159

'Sorry to say, but compared to the Dodgers, our players are mediocre.

Of course, if we had a Manager who knows how to build confidence in our players, I expect the results would be different.

Mad Scientists don't build continuity in young players.

I see where you're coming from... But I just don't believe Melvin is causing Young, CoJack, Snyder. Upton and Byrnes to not hit...
At some point, these guys need to wake the F up adn realize they are in the majors... Either put the damm bat on the ball, or get outta here...
Would a new manager make a huge difference? I just don't a new manager getting Young to hit .280. But, Melvin needs to go. He's created a bad situation that continues to be perpetuated... Maybe a fresh face, fresh voice would do some good...

All that said, I think Yound should go before Melvin...
