Underachievers?

Dude - we're there, consistently.

You don't get to 5 SB wins, 7 SB appearances by underachieving.

C'mon man - step it up.

No one's talking about the 70's Steelers. Those teams were beasts. The greatest Dynasty in Football History.

I'm talking about the Atlanta Braves-like 90's/00's Steelers who habitually choke on their own vomit once the regular season whistle blows and we get to January. Now, I realize, I've been pretty clear about that time frame (it says so in the post you quoted), but I guess I shouldn't expect you to have understood that. Follows that if you can't speak english, you probably can't read it either.

Do yourself a favor before you post this kind of stuff and embarrass yourself more.

Look up our playoff appearances in the 90's and 00's. Look up our AFCC appearances, look up Ben's playoff record.

Then come talk to me.

I you were to look at just past records, then the Cardinals would never have made it to the Super Bowl.

Of course if you were to look at everything this way, then Bank of America would still be $45 bucks a share and an old white guy would be President.

The past in the NFL has very little to do with what's going on today, thanks to free agency, the draft and little things like the Cards finally getting a home field advantage after 61 years.

Things change and you've got to deal with it.

Next Sunday will probably be a good time to start. :)

Ben nicely orchestrated a 92 yrd drive in the closing minutes of that game. In a hostile Ravens environment. How many QB's can say theyve done that against that unit ?

Kurt Warner did it in 2007, while only playing in the 2 minute drill parts of the game.

Unfortunately, we didn't win the game. But Warner torched the Ravens, in Baltimore, and was one B.S. helmet to helmet hit away, (not to mention a Rackers missed FG) full pulling out a victory....while only playing part time.

Knock the guy all you want, but he wins

Ben wins, and if he is smart, he will continue to win by playing smart. Leaning on that running game, and on the defense.

There is no denying the Steelers have had a heck of year. They played a tough schedule.

But it is the pot calling the kettle black to start complaining about the fact the Cardinals only have 9 wins, and how they entered the playoffs, etc., etc.

You would think if anyone would have respect for a team on a hot streak, it would be the last team to ride a hot streak into the playoffs, and that would be........... the NY Giants....but the Steelers also did it a couple years ago too.

Right - and that same defense gave up how many 30, 40, 50+ point games this year?

And how many games did our offense win this year?

Your record is 12-4, but you can't honestly say with a straight face your offense won all 12 games. Your defense won, more than a couple of those games.

Yes, our team has been BLOWN OUT a couple times this year. It is like the snowball effect, you know push a snowball down a mountain ? etc, etc.

But let's not get TOO confident here. I think the Cardinals can score over 14 points on Sunday.

There have been 6 games this year where the Steelers have scored 14 points or less. Including scores of 3 & 6.

But regardless, I do not wish for any of those things to happen. I hope that the Cardinals don't show up and pull one of those blow out B.S. games. I also hope (to a smaller extent) that the Steeler don't show up and have their offense fall apart.

I would hope we get a great game. If it is even close to the NFC Championship then we will all be happy......well, at least the game will be exciting, we may not all be happy tho.

Cardinal offense vs. Steeler defense it will be great. It will be an all-pro game out there.

Oh, if you don't respect our offense ? HA, then don't talk about how smart you are about football because you are fooling yourself.

The Steelers never scored just 3 points at any time this year. 6 was their lowest score to the Eagles in week 3. In the other 3 games we lost they scored 14 (twice,NY and Tenn) and 20 (against Indy).

Agree with everything else you say though, I'm hoping for an exciting game as well. It just wouldn't be a Steelers game for me without having that nail biting heart attack element to it lol.

Where did I disrespect your offense? By calling it one dimensional? I'm not sure that's dissing when it's completely accurate - you have zero rushing attack. Last in the league going against the leagues best.

Same old story though, Cards fans here calling the Steeler visitors arrogant and disrespectful when they're just stating the obvious.

Actually, you're (posters here in general) dissing the Steelers D, and that's cool. Makes for a bigger shock when they shut down your passing attack.

I've said this a couple times, it's getting repetitive - but I expect the Cards to score in the air a couple times. I also expect the Steelers D will shut down the passing attack a couple times. Your rushing game will be shut down period and our offense will manage to eat up the clock and put enough points on the board to win the game.

It's like giving the ending of a move away to someone who hasn't seen it yet.

Well, that's your OPINION. The Cardinals have had a very balanced offense during the entire playoffs. Throw out the regular season stats, cause again that is history and means nothing. So I am sorry but you are not accurate. IMPLYING the offense as a whole is just Fitzgerald and Warner is not respecting the other people that make up our offense is dis-respecting the rest of the guys that play on offense.

Hence I think my statement is more than valid.

Same old story though, Cards fans here calling the Steeler visitors arrogant and disrespectful when they're just stating the obvious..

I see no place where I called you or any of your fans arrogant. Furthermore, I am not going to pulled into some nancy pants online name calling match.

Stating obvious and giving one's opinion on something are two different things. Coming onto a Cardinals message board, giving a strong opinion, stating it is fact, and obvious and then wondering why it is recieved is arrogant is a little ridiculous.

Actually, your team is getting a lot of respect from a massive majority of the board. Any optimism and over confidence you see is because *shocker* you are on a Cardinals message board, and we are a week from play in our first Superbowl. We are not going to bow down before the mighty Steelers if that is what you are expecting.

My best friend, who is like a brother to me, is a rabid Steeler fan. I have watched a ton of Steeler football. There is no doubt your team deserves a lot respect. There is no doube your pass rush is, ridiculously good. There is no doubt you played the toughest schedule in the NFL this year. The Steeler are a great team, hence they are in said Superbowl.

But you will not sell me on that offensive line, and you will not sell me on the fact your secondary has the ability to shut down our passing attack. Not from what I have seen during the games I have seen all season long.

This game has the same factors as the Cardinals game vs. Philly. If the Cardinals don't have one of their breakdowns, and Ben/offensive line doesn't have one of their breakdowns. This should be an competitve game till the end.

BTW, your aggressive passive BS is notice and noted. Feel free to keep debating but playing the ol' bait and switch routine to get people in a position to bad mouth them is a old, old game.

Bait and switch? Puh-leeze. I haven't called anyone anything derogatory here and I've been the target of many insults. Aggressive passive? It's passive aggressive and thanks for making my point. Who's trying to drag who into a 'nancy pants online name calling match'?

Anyway, in regards to the tiny amount of actual football discussion mentioned in this manifesto, all I can recommend is hope for the best and expect the worst. I think you're highly underestimating our offense in general, but that's my humble opinion.

I'm right a lot also.

Arrogant

Hey if the shoe fits.

I would be real confident if I were a Steeler fan as well. The media is behind you, the experts, and heck you are the favorite going into the game. As I said numerous times, but there is no need for you to mention that cause then you couldn't bait me, your team deserves a lot of respect.

It is a great team. You get us in a hole, run the rock, and keep us one dimensional the game will be yours. Nuff said.

But, that why they play the games. Good luck.

Most of that is ancient history, we hear it all the time from Cowboys fans. They just haven't done much recently for the last decade+

3 games doesn't a trend make.

Tell that to the Falcons, Panthers and Eagles

15 games is a better population to derive a trend from.

Why ?

The first 10 games the Cardinals went 7-3, thats a pretty good trend. Then once that had pretty much clinced their division they took their foot of the pedal.

When you talk trends ALL you are looking at is the last few games of the regular season and conveniently forgetting the the first 10 games.

What matters is that by the last game of the season Wiz had them back at full throttle again. This is what you are missing.

Not true in the playoffs and unless I miss my dates we are no longer in the regular season.

Right now we have

Offense
#3 Total
#4 Passing
#4 Rushing

Steelers Defense
#2 Total
#5 Passing
#1 Rushing

Undue is the operative word in that definition.

I don't buy the "we played well for the last couple games so all is fixed", and that works for my team also. Our O-line has played fantastically for the last couple games but I'm not convinced that it means they're fixed.

The fact that the Cards went 2-4 to end the season should be a concern (I didn't realize they slumped down the stretch like that). Statistically you can rely on a trend more if it goes up or down gradually but big swings like the one you're describing identifies a high standard of deviation - which means it the bottom is more likely to drop out at any given point.

Maybe this Sunday?

This is part of the danger when extrapolating with a small population. With the exception of the Eagles, yinz faced rushing defenses ranked in the bottom third of the league.

Sorry, but the luck for the underdog ran out last year.
Not insulting, but inflammatory, and intended to get a rise out of Cardinal fans. Right out of the classic passive-aggressive playbook.

the Steelers are going to try to control the clock and if they're successful in doing so, and I don't have any doubts that they can't - then the game is almost in the bag.
More of the same.

This is yet another example why Cards fans are viewed as bandwagoners not just by Steeler fans but in general.
Sweeping, highly insulting, extra points for starting out with "yet another example", giving the impression of multiple other examples without the necessity of actually having them or pointing them out. All the while maintaining plausible deniability by claiming that you're just reporting on reality.

I'm just pointing out the reality of the matter.
Again, classic passive-aggressive. Say something inflammatory, then take refuge behind claims of objectivity.

I'm not sure why you're struggling with this communication thing, it's not a difficult concept.
Insulting, dismissive, but not open enough to attract moderator intervention.

First, and I hate doing this but I haven't insulted anyone here. Prick? Classy. Just know that I'm not stooping to that level. Insults are for those who have no basis for debate or discussion
The off-tackle run of passive aggressive trolling. Bait someone into snapping at you, then trash them and lay claim to the moral high ground.

Jealousy.
Again, designed to be infuriating without actually being insulting.

Talking stats here is like talking tax cuts with liberals.
Again, insulting without pushing it too far. Bonus points for saying something that pushes a key button for tons of people, angering conservatives for the comparison to liberals, and liberals for using liberal as an insult.

Yinz.. you'unz, you....

It's a term that yinzers like me like to use to piss off non-yinzers
Interesting. You're kind of giving the game away, here, guy. This is basically admitting that you're here to piss people off.

Alright the other thread was locked and I said I would provide this resposne so I will put this up here.

Oz from Ft. Lauderdale writes: Sando, I am having a convo with a steeler fan and you had mentioned that the Eagles defense was playing better then Steelers defense the last 6 games. I have been looking for that post and stats but can't find it. What were the stats you were pointing to?

Mike Sando: I was looking at touchdowns allowed. The Eagles allowed one rushing touchdown and one passing touchdown in their final four regular-season games, plus two touchdowns in their first two playoff games.

The Steelers allowed two rushing touchdowns and two passing touchdowns in their final four games. They have allowed five touchdowns in two playoff games.

That means the Eagles' defense had allowed four touchdowns in six games heading into the NFC Championship Game against the Cardinals. The Steelers have allowed nine touchdowns in their six most recent games.
These are both terrific defenses. The Steelers might have the better defense. But strictly in terms of touchdowns allowed by the defense, the Eagles came out ahead.

Obviously different defenses (and Polamalu scares the hell out of me - as someone who watchs alot of SC football I kow how good he is) but the Eagles were supposed to shut us down after taking it to NY. Didn't happen.

Won't happen here either.

The poster who wanted me to provide stats also laughed when I said Williams is better then FWP (Thats fast Willy Parker I believe) and all I can say is Deangelo Williams had a better season this year then FWP ever has TD wise. Willie might bust one but I expect you guys to be in 2nd and 3rd and long ALOT because there is NO WAY you are going to gouge us with the run at 4 -5 yards a pop.

And that will make Rothlesberger a sitting duck. Wheres the prop bet on over/under Big Ben turnovers? Take the over on that Steeler fan.

and WTF is with this Yinz crap? Are we playing a team from a different country or something. For your own sakes cut that crap out. Makes you sound like a bunch of beer swilling back-country goofballs.

Not that there is anything wrong with that:)
