Ok: Why did Chaplin start his own forum?

This George bashing is disturbing to me. About the ONLY thing I don't like about this site is the way some people are personally assaulted. There's no reason to jump all over a guy like George who brings info, spends time writing recaps so people who can't see the games are informed, and generally tries to keep the board alive by introducing new topics.

I can see where people on this board will disagree with points posted by a person. The idea is to refute the points a guy posts, not insult him personally. This is the only negative I generally see on this board.

I totally disagree. The point of PP as I understood it was to get a smaller group of suns fans together to discuss different topics. On this board, there is certianly a couple tiers of fans. There are the casual fans, the people who watch every game and the strategies, and the people who pay a lot of attention to the economics of the league. IMO there is no reason to resent someone for trying to do a seperate segregation of talk.


Was using the PM system a problem? I guess so, although I wouldn't have asusmed it before hand. This is a free site, so whats the problem with using the easiest form of communication? It isn't like they were trying to "steal" members from here either. I was one of the first 3 to join their forum, and my involvement here never dropped off (nor was it expected to). PP is simply an additional place to share ideas, with a different view on moderation.

The only problem I have with this entire event is the ban (and eventual unban) of Chap and Ehale. There was no reason for that, or the hidden forum for that matter........

This biggest "losers" in this situation are the people who for some reason made Chap feel univited to come back here. We lost one of the best Suns posters this board has over some petty ********. Perhaps the said people should try and work out some differences with him and Ehale so the rest of the community can have them back?

Whatever, this thread needs to die.

wow, guess my giant red tirade made me an undesireable on the new board. i didn't get pm'ed.

that said, i'm bummed that they were made to feel unwelcome here. i have always enjoyed chap's takes. ehale i know nothing about.

I figured I'd chime in and clear up a few inconsistencies here:

1) There was NO motive whatsoever to not include people--this turning of this into a problem against George or whoever is ludicrous, and insulting. To even infer that we had a list of people we only were willing to invite is just plain stupid.

2) Our intention was NEVER to steal traffic from this site. Ryan can believe whatever he wants, we never were out to steal members from here. This was a point I brought up to Mike and ehale brought up to Joe BEFORE we even started the other board. Which is why the banning made less sense.

3) The problems between Mike and I are unfortunate, but they run deeper than just opening a rival message board. The Private Messaging recruiting was probably not the best thing to do. My apologies go out to anyone that was offended, angry or irritated by it. But again, it was never with the intention of stealing traffic from this board. I have repeatedly stated that since day 1 to everyone I've talked to.

4) The board has really improved recently than what it was, and even back then, this was still a great board. My opinion on that has not changed. In fact, I've lurked just as much here as before.

5) Look, anyone that visits our board can see that we are a long way from even being respectable. There's no way we can compete with ASFN, we never even held the illusion of that happening, let alone making that a goal.

Perhaps some day Mike and I will iron out our problems. I think it might be worth it--there's a lot of history there, as you know. People might have a problem with me, as newfan so eloquently put it, but as many of you know, that's never been a problem. He doesn't miss me, and that's ok. I don't miss him either. But there are definitely many people I do miss, but I do have the pleasure of still lurking and reading what everyone says, and will continue to do so.

I hope this explains things a little better and even though it probably won't turn any opinions of me around, I felt it needed to be said, especially point #1.

First of all, I didn't know what had happened until it was done. I never saw the invitation, and I only knew that something had happened because another member sent me a private message about it. I don't believe that these guys were trying to steal traffic away from this web site, but I do agree that it was an inappropriate way to get people over there.
