Okafor Looked Plenty Tall to Me

Luke Schenscher of GA Tech is 7'1" 250 and was the key to their beating the relative big Oklahoma State state. But he could not stop Okafor who would score 24 points while grabbing 15 rebounds. Okafor looked tall enough.

Some people have compared him to Ben Wallace, but I thought Okafor looked pretty good with the ball. He now has a baseline jumper that was enough to shoot over Schenscher. I would have been interested in Okafor even if he was not a threat on offense, but I think he is at least as good as Kamen on offense and much much better on defense.

It would sure be nice if the ping pong balls fell right. ;)

How tall is Jim Nantz? After the game he interviewed Okafor, and he did not look that much shorter than him. I was surprised.

As long as his back is OK I think Okafor would be a great pick.

Okafor will never be better than a Ben Wallace/Elton Brand type player. Good, but not the type of player to build a team around.

Well I'd take him, actually he's the only player I want in the draft. If we can't get him I hope we trade our picks to get rid of Eisely and White.

Well we havent had anything close to a B.Wallace/Brand player at center in God knows how long. I want Okafor. Plus how many times does a player like Duncan/Shaq/Yao come around anyway? Just imagine if we got the right bounce on the ping pong balls. UConns best in AWA. Turassi for the Mercury and Okafor for the Suns.

Okafor seems to be bigger and better than Kenyon Martin when K-Mart was in college. He seems a little bit taller, too, but he ain't that tall (plus, it seems like he has an extra inch on other people just based on his head size--not exactly useful height, that).

Okafor wasn't bothered by Schenscher's height advantage in the slightest, though. That seems like a good sign for those of us who are trying to project him as an NBA center. He also looks good enough to step in to the NBA and make a difference immediately, which is more than I would say for any other player in this draft.

This year's draft might be the toughest ever to scout. I'm glad the Suns know what they're doing, because I wouldn't want to have to make binding decisions about these guys.

I just posted in another thread that I would be leery of taking him with the #1 draft pick a few measures any less than 6'9" in shoes. However I guess what I really care about is his reach. You are right about Okafor's head. He looks like a black Frankenstein with that huge for head of his. All you have to do is give him some big boots and pop some electrodes on his neck. :)

But he jumps better. :D

BTW, the Pistons held the Pacers to 61 points the other night with Ben at center.

I am watching the Pistons right now.

I am not sure about Ben Wallace being the center. It looks more like Rasheed, Elden and Okur defend the centers.

Rasheed Wallace, man, actually he could be the #2 option for us if we don't get Kobe. I never noticed he had that long arms.
It would definately easier to pull off as their seem to be a lot more high quality guards in the draft and Rasheed won't command as much money as Kobe and has limited options and seems to be friends with Grguric.

His attitude worries me ZERO, it might actually benefit the team if it even is like the media wants it to look like.
It seems to me that Rasheed has a lot of friends among former teammates.

I'm not sure the Pistons can sign both Sheed and Okur unless they can dump Eldon Campbell onto the Bobcats (think White with a smaller contract).

Okalhoma State a big team? They aren't and that is exactly why they couldn't stop Schenscher. It is not like he dominated.

Georgia Tech except for Schenscher had no big guys at all. They had no inside game offensively or defensively that's why Okafor looked as good as he did and Uconn won rather easily.

How exactly do you see every single basketball player (college, pro or high school) in the world play with regularity? I've always been curious about that...

On TV?

I had Oklahoma State vs Georgia Tech, Duke vs UConn and UConn vs Georgia Tech on TV this week.

And I won the yahoo ncaa fantasy pick'em tournament of this board with a big lead. I can't be too wrong.

That's not what I asked. I didn't ask you to pat yourself on the back, I'm just wondering how you see all these people play all the time. Final Four/Elite Eight viewing doesn't really convince me that you've seen JR Smith play a bunch of times.

Did I say I saw JR Smith play yet?
You can get NBA TV here via satellite and 2-3 other random NBA games per week.
I also get Suns games on DVD for example.

Why do I even have to defend myself? Can't remember being wrong very often in the past.

I can't help it if you have a bad memory.

Seriously, I have not had a chance to see these guys. I'm sure I'd be impressed by the athleticism, but would it tell any more about their ability to play defense?
