NORMAN — Oklahoma basketball has its opponent for the first round of March Madness.
UConn will play OU in the Round of 64 to open the NCAA Tournament bracket. The Sooners (20-13) will be a No. 9 seed. The two teams will play in Raleigh, N.C. Time and date are TBD.
This marks the first year OU coach Porter Moser has reached the NCAA Tournament with the Sooners. Prior to his arrival, OU had made seven tournament appearances in nine seasons. Moser is in his fourth season leading the Sooners.
OU has been playing its best basketball of late. OU is 3-1 in its last four games with its only loss coming by one point to Kentucky in the second round of the SEC Tournament. However, closing games has been a struggle for OU this season, it holds a 3-5 record in games decided by three points or less.

One more victory would give the Sooners their most wins since the 2015-16 Final Four team went 29-8.
OU has won four of its last seven games, with the three losses coming by a total of five points. It will make its 34th NCAA Tournament appearance and first since 2021.
"We beat Mississippi State, we come back, lose heartbreakers to Ole Miss and Kentucky, then we beat Missouri, at Texas, Georgia, three Quad 1 wins," Moser said after the loss to Kentucky. "Not easy to do with the schedule we've had. I'm happy and I'm excited that we're not done playing. I'm excited to go to battle with these guys again in the tournament."
