The Oklahoma Sooners 2026 recruiting class only has four players committed at this time, but they're trending for one of the top players in the state of Oklahoma, Mason James.
Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop and On3 issued a prediction on Wednesday, favoring the Sooners in James' recruitment. This comes after Sam Spiegelman of Rivals issued a FutureCast for Oklahoma to earn a commitment from James back in February.
A four-star wide receiver out of Norman North High School, James is a top-250 player in the cycle and has the talent to outperform his recruiting rankings. On3 considers James the No. 1 player in the state of Oklahoma, while 247Sports has him behind defensive lineman Tajh Overton.
He's a human highlight reel, displaying great speed and change-of-direction ability. He gets open with a full route tree and has fantastic hands. James can create after the catch in the short area passing game and runs past defenders at will.
He had an incredible season for Norman North with 56 receptions for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns.
He holds offers from the who's who of the Power Four, including Texas, Notre Dame, Alabama, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, SMU, Tennessee, Washington, Kansas State, and Missouri. James has official visits lined up with Arizona State (May 2), Missouri (May 30), Washington (June 6), and Oklahoma (June 20) but will also be taking a visit to Notre Dame this weekend.
“They were to offer me and from the start, Oklahoma has been there, they have been consistent and they have shown me I am important to them," James told On3's Chad Simmons. "That consistency has shown me a lot.” He also told Simmons that he could make his decision sooner than he thought and that decision could come this spring.
If the Oklahoma Sooners are able to earn a commitment from Mason James, they'd be adding a dynamic weapon to Ben Arbuckle's offense that can win at every level of the passing game.
