Isabela Smith, Kierston Deal, and Patyn Monticelli combined to throw a no-hitter Wednesday as the No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Sooners handled East Texas A&M 8-0.
The Sooners boosted their record to 27-0 in the five-inning victory and have won 30 straight games dating back to the Women's College World Series semifinals in 2024. East Texas A&M fell to 7-22 in just their third Division I softball season. The school known as Texas A&M-Commerce until this academic year never stood a real chance.
OU led 3-0 in the first after bringing just its first three batters to the plate. Gabbie Garcia and Sydney Barker hit back-to-back RBI singles, and Ailana Agbayani followed with an RBI groundout to provide the team with all the runs it would need. Garcia's first inning single made it 13 consecutive games with a hit.
Smith struck out four of the six batters she faced. Deal induced two groundouts and a flyout in her single inning of work. And Monticelli struck out two in her two innings. A walk with two outs in the fourth inning was followed by a wild pitch for the staff's only flaw. Monticelli responded with a strikeout to end the inning.
Garcia finished 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. The true freshman raised her batting average to .406 in the process. Kasidi Pickering went 1-for-1 with a double, two walks, and three runs, scoring every time she reached base. She's
Oklahoma's last regular-season loss was May 4th of last season, against Oklahoma State.
The Sooners return to SEC play this weekend for a three-game series against Missouri. The Tigers are in last place in the conference and checked in at the bottom of Sooners Wire's most recent SEC power rankings.
