Okur will still visit others

By David Aldridge
Special to ESPN.com

Detroit Pistons: The Pistons have offered free agent center Mehmet Okur a six-year, $40 million contract to stay in Detroit, according to a league source.

Okur still plans to have discussions with other teams before deciding in the next week what he will do. The Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns are among the teams expected to make offers for Okur.

Boston Celtics: The Celtics are in heavy pursuit of free agent center Adonal Foyle, according to a source. Foyle met with the Celtics on Thursday.

Atlanta Hawks: The Hawks have contacted restricted free agent Hedo Turkoglu and may be prepared to make him a significant offer in the next few days. Turkoglu received a qualifying offer from the Spurs this week that allows them to match any offer he receives.

Utah Jazz: The Jazz will have restricted free agent Manu Ginobili in Salt Lake City on Saturday. Ginobili visited the Denver Nuggets on Friday. Utah has more than $20 million in cap room available.

mmmm 6yrs/40M$

5M$, 5.5M$, 6M$, 6.5M$, 7M$, 7.5M$ = 6yrs/38M$

Well that means starting salary slightly over 5M$. Expect Utah to outbid them easily with their huge amount of capspace.

Okur isn't really what we need anyway.

<7M from the Pistons! Maybe we do have the $ after all. He doesn't play much defense/block shots though. The question is: do we want to pick up a player that will fit in with what we have, or are we more interested in picking up talent at a fair cost?

Hmmmm...if the Pistons do indeed sign Okur....does that mean that they're going to keep him in favor of Rasheed? If so, the Suns should shift their attention toward Wallace...He'll give the Suns a highly motivated player who is solid on both ends.....

That's exactly the offer we would expect them to offer Okur. Its the mid-level exception with max increases for 6 years.

If the Piston get Okur to sign for that they will still retain Bird rights for Sheed. We can't outbid them there.

The Pistons can't offer Okur any more than this. We can beat their offer to Okur, we can't outdo them on Sheed.

Well you can expect Utah to outbid that offer for Okur anyway.

When do you renounce your FAs? Isn't that decided already?

How does Rasheed for one year sound? How much would that cost?

He would never take that. Rasheed is 29 with no injury concerns. There is no reason to offer him just 1 year anyway.

Rasheed is going to look for a place to retire and cash in on his last big contract.

I would hope that the Suns evaluate him as what he brings to the team. Not what the media thinks of him as a person.
