According to realgm, Okur has signed an offer sheet with the Jazz, and they feel Detroit will not match. If true, the FA center pool is being drained. Whether that is a good or bad thing remains to be seen! Dave

I did not see Okur play during the regular season very much at all. He obviously played little in the playoffs. When he was in there, except for a few minutes in one of the games in Detroit against the Lakers, he looked very stiff and not very atheletic. The Suns must have decided he was over-rated.

Thank goodness. I did not want them to overpay for him.

He apparently is very inconsistent. He plays a great game, then looks average or less. That is what I have read from some Detroit Piston posts. We will see. He was probably too expensive for us anyways. I think the Suns decided before they signed Nash that they did not want to overpay for Okur.

Okur had some good games and is supposed to be a pretty good outside shooter. He is 24 years old and a lot of people like his potential.

But it's mostly potential - not production. In any case, he tends to duplicate what Lampe offers but lacks the same upside. I suspect that Sloan will have some success with him, but I don't see him as a good fit for the Suns.

BTW, if the offer was over the MLE, it is almost certain Detroit won't match since they do not have Okur's Bird rights.

My gut tells me Utah overpayed by a couple M. Just a guess. I am curious to see the numbers. Do we have to wait until the 14th to find out because Okur is a RFA?

We are guessing on all the contracts until they are officially signed on July 14. I am not panicking like everyone else because the centers I want the Suns to sign are still on the market. :) This is THE ONE I wanted off the market for the Suns! :)

Utah has so much cap space it is ridiculous. Even if they use a lot of to re-sign their own players, they will be a problem until they are out of the bidding process. I would much rather have them get talented guys the Suns don't need than to be sitting their like a dark, foreboding shadow ready to screw up some great deal.

FYI, a Detroit TV station is saying that Okur signed a 6 year deal between 42 and 48M!

Ouch, that's a killer.

The Suns could have had Okur if they wanted him... :(

Ifd those unmbers are correct, then we should have been able to get him. We have between 7-8 M left, and that is exactly what the range is on the Detroit station's report.

It depends on how it is structured. I'm guessing it starts at around $5.5 to $6 million unless they decided to go flat (an even $7 million a year) since they have the cap space.

That's an amazing amount of money for a guy who is already 25 years old and has 44 career starts in the NBA.

In comparison Nash's contract does not look quite as overwhelming. That contract is crazy

Yes they would have had the money to get him...and if they did I would have gone postal. This is a monumental day for the Suns because it shows that they learned from their mistakes---aka Luc Longley.:D
