GM's make deals... Period. Most moves made by GM's never attain the level of value hoped for when the deal was made.
That said, KT has failed miserably. Nobody can say otherwise. It's pointless to debate the rationale behind the moves he has made... Only the results matter. And in that context, Towers has colossally failed by all measureables...
I also place a large amount of blame on Gibby. It seems pretty clear that he had a ton to do with shipping out Upton, Bauer and Eaton.... And while I was ok with those guys being cut loose, the job of the GM is to bring in value... And KT totally missed the mark.
I gotta believe that by the end of the season, if not before, BOTH Gibby and KT will be gone...

Kirk Gibson is acting like a butt-hole!

It is in today's news that, when Gibson was asked about the status of closer Addison Reed, who has the 3rd most blown saves in the league, he responded with sarcasm.

He said to the Press, "Why would you ask? What, because a guy had a tough inning?"

Doesn't he know the difference between a "tough inning" and "the 3rd most blown saves in the league"?

More importantly, doesn't he realize that a Manager's job is more than making out lineup cards? He is the most visibile spokesman for the team on a daily basis.

I don't expect the D-backs brass to react to his incompetence, or that of Kevin Towers, during the season. But I sure hope that they do as soon as the season ends.

Kirk Gibson is out of touch with reality. He is acting like a butt-hole. He has become an embarrassment to the team and its fans.

I bet Towers told Gibson that Reed has to remain the closer. If he demoted him, it would prove that Towers made another terrible trade, which we already know.

Trevor is 2-4, an ERA of 4.424, WHIP 1.4576. If he had Kershaw's stats I would buy it.

As a 23 year old in the AL those stats are pretty good... He'd be our ace. Didi meanwhile is hitting .220.

82, you had been a pretty steadfast defender of KT. What led to you finally seeing the light?

Wrong... "Defender" wouldn't really be an accurate description.
My position on KT was always that he deserved time and that THIS year would be the year I hold him accountable to the trades and moves he had made.
I was "ok" with the idea if getting rid of Upton, Bauer and Eaton and wanted to give him the benefit of some time to see if those moves panned out.
I have always felt that a GM deserves at least 3 years before you can really assess his time and decision making. Well, time is up and the results are in for KT. Time to move on...

This is what happens when a GM and a manager collaborate way too much and build a team around "Their guys, and guys with GRIT, and Moxie, and tough, old school guys who play the "RIGHT WAY"...

All that does, besides build a crappy team, is makes the manager and GM who hand picked all those guys, it makes them hyper defensive about their failures because they are their guys and they are ALL IN.

If KT would just find good players and bring them in and then Gibson would just do his job, you know, find a good lineup and stick with it, make decent substitutions and create a rotation, then when someone sucks you can just bench them. If a closer is terrible you send him down. You aren't so freaking emotionally tied to the succsesses and failures of your team so you feel the need to be a jerk to the media when they ask a valid question about your horrible team.

It's not that I dont want Gibby to stand up for his guys, but there has to be a point where you put down your shield and just say yep, he's not getting it done and we're going to look at our options. You cant sit there and say he had "1 bad inning." Cmon Gibby we have eyes and we aren't stupid, Reed has been bad all year and he has been a freaking catastrophe the last 2 months! "One bad inning....." GMAB!
