OXFORD — Ole Miss football quarterback Jaxson Dart could be the wild card that shakes up the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Dart has been settled in mock drafts as the No. 3 quarterback and usually projected to be picked after Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders. That changed in ESPN analyst Todd McShay's latest mock draft.
McShay projected the New Orleans Saints to select Dart with the No. 9 pick. In that scenario, Dart was the No. 2 quarterback off the board behind Ward. Sanders went No. 15 to the Cleveland Browns, who traded up.
Dart's skillset was part of McShay's reasoning for the shakeup. New Orleans Saints coach Kellen Moore has had success as an offensive coordinator with quarterbacks Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts. Dart, who is 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds, is an athletic, strong-armed passer with similar qualities.
"(Moore) is used to a bigger, mobile, stronger-armed quarterback, and those are three qualities Jaxson Dart has," McShay said.
Sanders is 6-2 and is 215 pounds, but he is not as proficient at scrambling as Dart. Ward checks in at 6-2 and 223 pounds.
Sanders is the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame member Deion Sanders and began his college career at Jackson State and joined his father after he was hired by Colorado.
Dart is Ole Miss' all-time leading passer. He passed for 4,279 yards last season, which was No. 3 nationally, and 29 touchdowns. Sanders was No. 4 with 4,134 passing yards. Ward, whom McShay mocked to the Tennessee Titans with the first overall pick, was No. 2 with 4,313 passing yards
