According to Barnett, nobody called about either Cujo or Roenick (seemingly contrary to the Cujo to Toronto rumors). They also had a deal with Buffalo regarding Owen Nolan, but Nolan told Phoenix he'd rather stay (he however, does not have a no trade clause). His wife is pregnant and has a history of complications (they lost a child last year) so the Phoenix brass respected his wishes.

Well lovely, they trade Perralt, Comrie and Saprykin this year, but will probably replace them with 38 year olds past their prime..

Just when you think this franchise is taking two steps forward, they take three steps back.

LaRaque to the Penguins.. Being I like the Penguins, I love the deal on their side, not so much for the Yotes.

From this week's THN
Adam,

What about the Coyotes? Winners or losers in their trio of trades?

Mike

Mike,

This isn’t GM Mike Barnett, is it? If it is, I had mixed feelings about your moves.

On the one hand, I thought you did very well with the three guys you shipped out. The Georges Laraque and Yanic Perreault trades in particular are great building blocks for the future.

However, it was the moves you didn’t make that cause me to wonder. You’re telling me nobody wanted Curtis Joseph? You’re telling me there were no takers for Owen Nolan? You should’ve gave those guys away, Mike. Even if you didn’t get much more for them than Anson Carter got for Columbus, it would’ve been addition by subtraction.

Rumor has it that Toronto was trying to shed enough salary to add Cujo but couldn't (Todd Walsh said after the deadline that nobody called about him). As already mentioned about Nolan, they had a deal for him but Nolan wanted to stay due to his wife being pregnant and the previous complications.

Otherwise I echo THN's sentiments. A third and Carcillo is a good deal for an expensive guy that was consistently locked in the press box. The only thing is that Carcillo is an extremely nasty player and not in a good way. He's very skilled offensively and could put up some decent numbers, but has the habit of flying apart and picking up some lengthy suspensions due to idiotic plays. Somebody is going to have to sit down and talk with him about keeping your head in the game at the NHL level.

We also picked up Bell (and a second) in the Perreault trade, who is an interesting young player. He's a natural defenseman who has also played the wing in his short NHL career and hasn't looked out of place. Both players should be in the lineup for tonight's game.

I also heard on FSN during the Oilers or Canucks game that Perreault was offered a one year deal from the Coyotes. Perreault didn't want the team (sounded like he wanted something longer than one year) so the Coyotes dealt him.

Another situation where the Yotes got something for a guy who could have been leaving. But then again, when you're out of the playoffs, any of these teams are getting something for nothing. That's the NHL.
