The replay on TV showed D Johnson was within passing range.

Right but the play is between the tackles and Johnson is behind the LOS. If the ball gets there it's ok, if it doesn't the ref can decide was he really throwing to Johnson or just throwing it away. If he thinks throwing it away the rule is then was it outside the tackle and past the LOS, on both the answer is no.

We were going to punt regardless but I'll take a punt over receiving a kickoff down 7-0 everytime.

I don't agree with K9 very much however I'm on the same page as him on this one. Alright you get a bad call and they get a cheap TD. There is still 55-56 minutes left in the game and a lot of football left to play. Suck it up and get it back. Instead they give up 17 more points to go down 24-0 before the Cardinals get on the board just before the half.

Bemoaning officiating is embarrassing. C'mon, guys. We lost by 10 points! We suck! That's not the official's fault. These might not be the Same Ol' Cards, but these sound a lot like the Sam Ol' Cards fans.

Free pass on bemoaning officials when they give away touchdowns that shouldnt happen right when the game starts.

My take is if fans accept blatantly bad calls they're going to continue to get blatantly bad calls.

It's not like travelling in basketball or holding in football where you can call it all the time so you have to pick and choose the really blatant ones. It was a forward pass ruled a fumble that became a TD for the defense. And the reason they didn't overturn it is apparently NFL rules don't allow them to turn on the television and watch the replay on FOX.

Well, fans bemoaning the officiating on message boards has sure sent the NFL a lesson over the past always.

Does anything fans do on message boards send the NFL a lesson?

Some people seem to think so:

I don't mean just on message boards. In case you aren't aware people complain about this stuff all over the place.

It was a terrible call and the excuse given doesn't make any sense, the whole point of replay is to get the call right. If your system is down why would you not be able to use the tv replay?

You should probably post more about this.

Absolutely---isn't the spirit of replay to make sure the right calls are made on TDs and game-changing plays? Use any resource there is. Heck, call Mike Perreira if you have to.

with all due respect from someone who spends hours each week breaking down plays to determine goats and heroes it seems a bit odd to be telling me I'm wasting my time talking about a call the NFL has already admitted was wrong and would have been overturned if the system worked.

and for the record I like heroes and goats. We all pick and choose what matters to us, in a multi billion dollar industry they ought to have less of these mistakes.

From what I read Pereira was on that new Skip Bayless show earlier today, he said he doesn't like whiners when asked about Cam Newton. But when asked about the fumble TD call he said it's probably something the NFL needs to look at because it should have been overturned and wasn't, they probably want to look at changing that rule. I'm assuming he means the ability to use tv replays if their own system is not working.

The entire reason FOX started using Pereira on telecasts is it became obvious to them fans want to know about calls are they correct or not etc. Does it change anything of course not, but nothing we do on this board changes anything and we all still post here.

I really don't like excessive whining about officiating but the refs blew several calls in this game and I vote that a couple of them get knee capped.

I turned on MNF and watched yet another thing about refs that drives me nuts. 4 consecutive times they spotted the ball incorrectly because they have this inane habit of wanting to put the ball on a yard marker even if the guy is short or past that yard marker. it's so silly it's like they're too lazy to try and figure out where he actually was so they put the ball on the yard marker closest to it. Minnesota got a first down by them doing it, and then lost half a yard on the next play when they did it again.

There's a league directive to do it. There was an article on Deadspin about it a couple weeks ago.

That's just nutty. Minnesota got a first down because they did it, Chicago challenged it and the refs upheld the challenge while both announcers said he was down short of the 3 but they spotted it right at the 3.

Hmm....didn't know that complaining about officials and the team's poor performance was an either/or proposition......

While we're at it, I don't like that they have to have a conference after every flag. I mean do you really need four officials to discuss an off side penalty?

I noticed that too in a lot games. What is really bad about it is on those marks near the goal line that 1/2 yd. could mean the difference between a tem scoring a TD and not. If the runner makes it to the 1/2 yd. line then they should spot it there, not the 1 yd. line. If on the next paly the runner gains 2/3 of a yd. it's not a TD but if it's spotted correctly it's a TD. Same for any I yd. or less spot. It could be the difference between a 1st. down and not making it. Spot the damn ball exactly where it was down.
