One day of practice this week?

I read in the Tribune this morning that the Cards are only going to practice tomorrow. Now, this might not concern me so much BUT, it was mentioned on MNF that the Giants did this during their bye week and the Browns took it as a slight. And, of course, the Giants didn't look very good and got spanked.

Would it hurt to watch a little film on Carolina on Thursday and then run a shorts and helmet practice putting in a couple of new wrinkles and then cutting them loose by noon? It's standard for every team to give Friday of the bye week off at this point, so I'm fine with that.

Well, he can't go back on his word then. I just hope it works out better for us than it did for the Giants.

Remember how many showed-up for the voluntary work-outs! When I listen to Whiz' (like his style) he keeps talking about guys working hard in practice and "earning" a spot on the Game-Day roster! Man, we've come a long way from the days of seeing if Johnny the HotDog vendor can play TE because we have injuries. I have NO DOUBT that several players will be either watching film, getting together to talk football, ...Or, and I think this is IMPORTANT, to spend some time w/their wives, families, friends. People draw strength from MANY different sources. I think we tend to forget that these guys have real lives when the final gun sounds and the game is over. Whiz' & Co. will have them ready before they get on that plane. Carolina's a GOOD team, and they know, momentum can be lost with a single bad-outing. GO CARDS!!

I’m cool with it… the Browns maybe had a case to take it that way with the Giants since they were sitting with only one win versus an undefeated opponent. Maybe used it for a little spice in the locker room, I’m figuring.

I don’t really think the Panthers would think we’d be dissing them in any way, since they’re usually a darned good team at home, we’re not so great on the road, and they have the exact same record we do.

And it’s funny… but I haven’t heard any musings about staying back East in between the next two games. I’m thinking that’s a good thing too, because after the results of the last swing, it was getting a little breezy for me up there on the ledge.

Hard to truly assess... however, the Giants were undefeated... They were not going to remain undefeated all year. So, was last night more of a case where the law of averages caught up to the Giants? Even if they had practiced, would they still have gotten beat? Hard to say...

After what happened to the Cardinals and the Patriots, I don't think anyone is going to be staying away from home between games anytime soon.

The Panthers are concerned with bouncing back from a big Divisional spanking last week in TB. They host NO in another huge game for them this week. This is a chance for the Cardinals to rest, get healthy and get focused. Dallas is in the past, Carolina is still in the future, today the Cardinals rest. (Just like me trying to get my voice back)

I'm not concerned about the work really. It's not like I'll lose sleep over it or blame Whis for one practice this week if we lose in Carolina. We could easily lose if we practiced three times.

This is a rough sport, and with so many hamstring & groin injuries I say this is the best thing for the team in the long run.

Its nice to get a break after putting up good performances.
Also gives some time to the players to recover and be with their family.
There should be some bonuses everytime we win games. Make the team want to win.

Based on what he said on the "Whis and Wolf" show, Whis is using the one or two practices this week to get the practice squad players like Lance Long some extra work, while giving the starters a break physically. Makes sense. Get J.J., Doucet, Elton Brown, Matt Ware, and company some quality practice time. It's all good!

Looking back on it, Q's down time may actually pay benefits in the long run because he's likely to come out firing on all cylinders in the Panthers game after a 3-week down time. With as high intensity a guy as Q is, maybe the short physical break will be a good thing.
