One question..... If this is true why is the best player in history a guard?

It is a myth that the dominating center is "required" to win a championship.

IMO a team does need at least two players capable af breaking down a defense and creating a shot for themselves or a teammate (a third is prefered), solid role players, and health.

Serviceable but not great centers have started on championship teams.

about SuperTroopers:
Boy I loved that movie. "Say team RamRod!, Say team RamRod!".

This is a terrific thread. It's not a complete waste of time at all.

I can't wait to take my new NBA knowlegde out for a ride.

Boy, when I get the chance to say "The Suns don't have a dominating center, so they won't win a Title," I'm gonna look like a stinking genius.

The Spurs have TWO quality centers on their team and have absolutely zero shot at winning the title this year.

Call Duncan a PF all you want. It's a creative way of saying "Shaq makes him look silly because he's soft, so we'll call him a power forward. We saw what the soft label did for Robinson, and we don't want to repeat that fiasco."

I think the Kings will win it this year and they would have won it last year if they could have shot an average free throw %. What does that have to do with having a dominate center?! If the Mavs or Kings win this year your comments are going to look really stupid. You said that we will probably not be alive to see a team that doesn't have a dominant center (us) when a championship and it may actually happen within the first year you mention it?!?!?!?!? The bulls never won with a dominate center and they may be the best team ever.

I again stress my point of there are no more positions in the NBA. Every team mentioned has a dominant big man. TH mavs have Dirk (who is very dominant on the offensive end) and the Kings have Webber (who appears ready to show up a the end of a game now).

I think you do need to have a very good inside out game to win a championship. Now whether that player plays center or not I do not feel matters.

Your point is taken about the inside game. Perhaps, I shoudl not have used the word "center" but instead, the term "inside game" is more appropriate.

The Suns will NEVER win in today's NBA without that inside game, and all they do is continue to sign cute shooters, guards and forwards who can't hold down the middle , under the basket.....

And, that is why the NBA, for all intents and purposes, is a game in which ONE MAN, if he's on the floor, will dominate, and , eventually win.

Jordan, of course, was the exception to the rule....but, we may Never see another Michael jordan.

So are you saying that Amare Stoudemire won't provide us with that "inside game"? If that's the case, you're very wrong my friend.

The title of this thread actually got me wondering an altogether different question:
In which major team sport can a single player be the most dominant? Is it:

• Basketball: Players play on both ends, and a great player at any position can completely take over a game.
• Football: The entire offense literally runs through the quarterback, but he is literally non-existent on defense. Defensive players can be avoided.
• Baseball: The pitcher, if he is perfect, can guarantee his team will not lose.
• Hockey: Again, there are players who play on both ends, but, as with baseball, a perfect goalie can guarantee his team won't lose.
• Soccer: Not a major U.S. sport, but basically the same ideas apply from hockey.

I think Stoudamire will have a better inside game than many of the guys you just mentioned, in many ways Webber and Nowitski are finesse players too and shoot a lot of outside shots,.Webber is known for not going inside enough and has been called out for not being agressive enough and I've seen games where Nowitski shoots outside shots for most of the game, so I still don't know what you're talking about. Stoudamire is much more of a pure inside player than those two. Now we have two positions, Power Forward and Center who can win a championship, that's 40% of the team!.. How about the Bulls/Suns match up? That was a pretty close series and a three pointer beat us. Neither Jordan nor Charles Barkley could even come close to being considered centers, so players who could be centers is moot too. Still don't get your point....
