I think he will be able to contribute as much as Lopez this year if not more. If his is really as healthy as he says he could even play some PF. Man that guy has some small calves!

I'm not a Lopez fan, never have been. I think there's a small chance that O'Neal will give us A LOT MORE than Robin did. If injuries and such prevent it from working out that way, I still don't see that we lost much in the exchange.

Say what you want about Lopez, but he did care about how he performed. That's usually the first thing you look for in a professional basketball player of marginal skill.

If you rate Lopez's contribution the last few years as anything greater than zero, then expecting O'Neal to replace him is laughable.

You guys have no idea how worthless O'Neal has been for several years. There is a reason he was still on the scrap heap when we inked him. His contributions on the court have been non-existent, and he is a virtual lock to miss half the season with various injuries.

I love the Lopez trade but I fully expect for O'Neal to spend most of the season sulking on the bench or wearing a suit.

Of course we know how useless he's been the past several years. I don't expect our training staff to pull off a Grant Hill kind of miracle but since it's an almost risk free acquisition, I'm fine with hoping the long shot comes in.

I agree, low risk, but I dont get why we would not take a younger guy for a low risk situation. I dont see why, in our current situation, would sign anyone who will be retiring soon.

Anthony Randolph got 2 mil a year... why didnt the Suns roll the dice on him? He is exactly the kind of guy you'd think they'd love. Long, crazy athletic, young. He is an absolute dunce but at that salary rate with his propensity for double doubles it is an actual low risk/high reward move.

While I view O'Neal as a low risk/potential for little to no reward signing.

We don't know who the Suns have approached. Randolph may have been?
That and it's not easy to get guys on a 1 year deal. A lot of guys can get far more security by playing out of the country. I'm not thrilled about O'Neal, never cared for the guy, but Hill had done nothing for several years then sort of made rebounds the year prior to signing here when many thought he was about to retire. He was what, 34? Either way, O'Neal has proven when healthy he can play at a high level. The Suns are taking little risk that they can keep him healthy and he's only here 1 year. He's just filling space as anyone that was available would.

If you were a young guy with potential and few warts, would you race to Phoenix and ask them to give you a chance? It takes 16 billion to tango (or something like that).

I agree - and Phoenix has its plate full already with Beasley, Johnson, Morris and Marshall.
