I'm kind of concerned that we only have 4 WRs on the roster.

Seems kind of risky that your main formation has 3 WR and you only have one backup for all three positions. Not to mention that your one backup is also your starting punt returner.

I guess we could bring in Fred Wakefield if we go to a 5 WR formation.

With Edge as a receiving back it is not that big of risk for game time and we have 3 practice squad guys that could be pressed in to duty the following week if needed. Edge and Pope a big receiving tight end makes this a non issue IMO.

True, only 4, but they have the #5 and #6 best receivers on the practice squad. If any receiver gets hurt, you'll see one of these guys brought up.

how could it hurt. please explain.

Well, he seems to have a poor work ethic, poor off the field habits, and really hasn't done anything his entire career. I think that could hurt.

and turds don't make very good football players. They don't even have any legs. It's science.

sometimes a change of sceenary does a person good. it wouldn't cost that much to find out. i believe that getting cut humble charles rogers a little and plus if he any kind of football player, he is going to want the lions to regret ever cutting him.

I would doubt that Rogers could come in and have a negative effect on the work ethic of Fitz or Quan. Those guys have had a good work ethic installed in them from way back. However, they could have a positive effect on Rogers' work ethic and show him what it takes to be successful. Fitz would show him how a the number 2 overall pick should act and play. Of course, Rogers could also just be on of those horses asses and it doesn't matter where he goes that he'll be a jerk. I think the reason he was the one let go by Detroit is that he was the first one there and had alot of influence on the guys who followed. Here he'd be 4th in line and little influence.

To pick up Rodgers we would have to cut someone. Who on the roster gets dumped for this turd. I expect some would say Navarre, I disagree. He may not be a talent but his work ethic and attitude have never been questioned. What message do we send to the players if a hard worker gets dumped for a cancer/turd.

We are in great shape at WR so there really is no need to take this kind of gamble.

Let the Raiders add another problem child, they like that kind of thing.

Or maybe he's satisfied with the $16M that the Lions already paid him.

You're IMO basing this on his draft status and production in college - not how he has played in the NFL. I would buy the arguement if Rogers had shown something on the field along with his attitude and behavior (like TO). But he hasn't done anything! Three starts last season - 5 receptions for 76 yards. And that's playing opposite one of best receivers in the league!!! (when healthy).

Any of the WRs on our PS would get more than 76 yards if they started opposite Fitz in three games.

I predict we'll wind up with 5 WR's on the active roster before long (with #5 probably being Carlyle Holiday).

While we can probably get by with 4 guys backed up by Holiday, Spurlock and Watson on the PS - the risk on game-day is that, should one of our top 4 guys go down and the game situation calls for a 4 WR set, we may not be able to dial up those plays.

That's why I think that, once the dust settles, we'll carry 5.

Could they be thinking about lining Pope up as one of the WR's?

He seems a little soft for a reciever. This pic was the game right before he got cut. Image courtesy of Duane Burleson of the AP.

i am also basing this on the first game he played againist the arizona cardinals. injuried the past few season and played on some misiables offenses. plus, every team, scout, gm, coach, and draft expert raved about this kid. so he must have some talent. i also believe everyone desevers a second chance. life is all about second chances. bring him in for a second chance and if he doesn't improve then send him packing.

Gil Brandt was on SIRIUS this afternoon. He observes that sometimes scouts will see a prospect make great play and be in awe.

Then, later on, they watch a whole lot of tape on the dude and see him drop a lot of passes a run sloppy routes.

Rogers had those two sick catches against us in his opening game. Since then, the book on him is that "he doesn't have a very good work ethic." Brandt says that that phrase is the kiss of death when it comes to evaluating players and that he'd be surprised if any team would pick up Rogers for anything less than entry level bucks.

that is what i am talking about. get him for entry level bucks. i am not sure, but wouldn't he considered an RFA if he is signed by a team. i think he worth a shot.

No, he's entering his 4th year.Teams only have the "restricted FA" right for 4 years, so the last chance to exercise that right was this March.

Two words, Vinnie:

Terrell Owens.

We're talented enough and deep enough at WR that we don't need to take that kind of risk to our team chemistry along with the distractions Rogers would no doubt bring.

I like Brandt a lot but I'm pretty certain that he loved Charles Rogers before the draft because I always pay close attention to Brandt since his track record is really good.

The main issue with Rogers is not just work ethic, it's his history with drugs. Rogers tested positive at the combine because his urine showed evidence of a "masking agent", and of course he was later suspended in the NFL for violating the drug program. Combine that with his injury history and you have a background that suggests right or wrong a guy who was using something either recreationally or probably performance enhancing and like many others, had injury problems as a result.

Obviously the Lions were fed up with him and he probably is not a hard worker if he was he wouldn't be using drugs IMHO.

Tough call the kid has major talent but how long is anybody going to be willing to wait for him to realize he's pissing it all away?
