This is a good thing for the pollsters and their useless preseason bias IMHO.

Nothing against USC/Ohio State, etc. Maybe the pollsters will realize parity is here. So far 2 top 3 teams have been beaten. Now teams like Georgia, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, etc. are back in the race where they belong. USC beat Virginia and Ohio State and their lead was widening. Gotta love the horse race now.

USC fans might be devastated, but... this makes for a more interesting season.

Pete Carroll is overrated as a coach. He's undoubtedly a great recruiter, but his preparation and in-game coaching skills would seem to leave something to be desired.

Carroll wins because of superior talent, but there is no excuse for losing at Oregon St. in successive trips or for last season's debacle at home to Stanford.

I wonder if the player's subconsciously set themselves up for an occasional loss. Nothing is automatic in college ball. That game was ripe for them to lose. Even if they pulled it out at the end, that was a 25 point spread game. Maybe they believed they were that much better.

Totally agree. The USC excuse will be injuries, missing a CB, Mays the safety got hurt, maualuga got hurt late in the game, but the reality is all those #1 recruiting classes equal great depth, they have backups who OSU would gladly start.

3rd year in a row that a Carroll coached team has pissed away a national championship by choking, UCLA, Stanford last year, OSU this year. They just
choked a lot earlier this year. I watched Stanford beat OSU earlier this year and I can't believe OSU beat USC.

What a stunner, hats off to OSU.

What? No love for the Pac 10? Geez. Maybe it is time to realize it is not a one team conference and is a minefield in waiting. Kudos to the Pac 10.

It also shows the idiocy of the BCS system, where one bad game can kill your chances.

I don't think it kills their chances. This could be one of those years without a no loss team.

Pretty much eliminate SEC from that zero loss considering the competition and head to head games. Same goes for Big 12 and Big 11. ACC is a 2 loss conference and Big East is already assured of a one or worse loss team.

If BYU is undefeated they will have to face a one loss team for BCS.

Not this year. Penn State beat OSU 45-14, Stanford put up 36 on them in a win. For USC to be that far behind and ultimately lose with their talent is inexcusable.

Carroll is a fabulous recruiter and a great DC but he's too friendly with his players he wants to be their buddy not their coach and the last 3 years they have blown a game like this because they come in too cocky and nobody is able to get their attention.

USC fans are in meltdown mode blaming everything from injuries, refs calling too many iffy penalties for trying to rip Quizz Rogers head off, to the schedule of 2 weeks off and then play on Thursday.

Isn't Stanford in the Pac 10?

USC has a few issues starting with how Chow is about 100x better than Sarkisian who thinks he has to be creative instead of simply lining up and scoring points. Carroll deserves a lot of criticism there considering he basically ran Chow out of town.

Also as Russ pointed out Carroll's lax attitude is finally taking effect. The Trojans never seem to get up unless an opposing player runs his mouth (see Carpenter, Rudy) or it's a non-conference game that brings out the 'Pac-10 is soft' media pundits.

Then there is their decision to use Joe McKnight as their big offensive tool. Also there might be the impression that, given their past success, anyone they recruit is a superior talent because USC wanted them. These guys might not be as good as their reputations.

Is everything
The new rules this year regarding the play clock is creating fewer plays from the line of scrimmage and as a result gives the Davids a better shot at beating the Goliaths. Fewer snaps = less time for superior talent to overwhelm an opponent. If USC had the same amount of play opportunities as years past they just might have pulled out the victory.

USC's loss is early enough that they could climb back into the National Championship picture if the other contenders stumble as well.

This game is an example of why college football is the greatest sport on the planet. What a great game by OSU. I know it's tempting to say USC blew it, but the Beavers played GREAT! The real mystery is why they were so BAD in their first few games.

Young, on the road and improving. Let's see how they do next week @ Utah. That will be a good test.

Isn't Stanford in the Pac 10?

Yes but they're one of the weaker teams in the conference, on the way back a bit but still pretty weak.

So SC getting worked by a team Stanford beat looks bad.

Even SC fans are seeing that, Staffon Johnson was the "hot" guy in the game but Sarkisian kept going back to dial up plays for McKnight who wasn't nearly as effective, and fumbled. I think he thinks Joe is another Reggie Bush, maybe the pay day on his eye black against TOSU confused Sarkisian?

They have so much depth at RB it's almost hurting them they rotate them all and none really get into a groove. I do agree they should be able to just line up and win as Mao said, trying to trick a team that you have severely out talented doesn't make a lot of sense. I think as Mao said they badly miss Chow.

not that he's turned UCLA around of course but he's playing with far inferior talent at QB, RB and Wr, and probably the worst OL in the Pac 10 this year.
