Hudson was also offered a four year contract for $29M, countered with a 5 year contract for a ridiculous $60M, and then settled for $3.38M to play for the Dodgers (and lied to a Phoenix radio station by saying Arizona never sent an offer). Can't say that the Diamondbacks didn't try to give him a fair deal, Hudson flat out got greedy and blew it.

Baseball's free agency period coincided with the economy taking a dump. Teams are forcasting attendace drops and are bracing for a drop in revenue. Several players priced themselves out of the market with Hudson being a prime example. Of course this doesn't apply if you're the Yankees

I think Hudson thought he was going to get a better offer but the economy got worse and he had to settle. It's too bad because if Hudson didn't get hurt last year, I think the Diamondbacks would of won the division.

Anyone see Orlando's back handed comments about Dbacks fans after hitting for the cycle? I saw it on ch 12 last night.. I forgot the exact words but it something along the lines of "it feels good doing it here in LA in front of Dodger fans that understand how special this is" and then went on to make some reference of his prior team (Dbacks)(I think it was about attendence)..

The D-backs were actually 15th out of 30 teams in attendance last year at around 31k per game. That's about what you would expect for the product that was on the field.

I definitely miss Orlando's game but definitely not his attitude.

I'm talking about the interview he gave, I think it was with Gambo and Ash where he said the team never made him a contract offfer. He didn't say that they made him an offer that he thought was too low, he said that they never made him an offer period which I think is a load of bull. He just seems intent on bad mouthing the team now a la Simeon Rice.

It was built before the trend of more intimate stadiums came along, it ought to be more like PNC Park (38K), Nationals Park (41K), Citi Park (42K), or AT&T Park (41K) instead of the 49K it holds. The upper deck at Chase must be the biggest one in all of baseball, its mammoth. Partially due to the fact that the site the field sits on didn't have much room between Jefferson and the railroad tracks, so theres not much outfield seating. Ah well, nothing we can do about it now.

That's a really good point, the stadium feels like a national park instead of a baseball park.
