He's certainly currently better than Okobo and Jerome. Maybe even long-term as well.
Maybe, but he has already failed with 4 teams. He looks good in the g league but I fear that, to use a baseball term, he is just a AAAA player (someone who dominates the minor leagues but fails in the majors). Hopefully I am wrong though.

In my opinion, for backup guards it's like throwing a dart at a dart board. This also tells me that we're likely going big in the draft or looking at a trade/fa signing of a PF.

He also signed for 2 years, which is... interesting... considering where we are at right now.

Or we're just going to overload one position with mediocre quantity while ignoring other positions of need...again...

Monty should be familiar with him. I'm glad the Suns are taking a look.

Here is a link and snippet from an article at Arizona Sports:

The Toronto Raptors signed Payne to the team’s training camp but he did not make the final roster and was not on an NBA team during the 2019-20 season.

Payne signed with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Shanxi Loongs in late November and moved on from the CBA in early January. He wound up back in the NBA landscape, playing with the G League’s Texas Legends before the season was paused due to the coronavirus.

Suns now have the 13th (Booker), 14th (Payne) and 15th (Oubre) selected players from the 2015 draft.

I'm guessing the second year of Payne's contract is a team option. The Suns had a regular roster spot and a two-way spot open. He may take the 15th slot.

I figure the Suns are not picking up the option on Okobo. His option was due to expire on July 10th but that date has probably been pushed back.

It seems to me the Suns have an affinity for the 2015 draft.

Frank Kaminsky was drafted 9th. Previous Sun Richaun Holmes was drafted 37th.

So who was a PF in that draft around that region?

I was having a discussion the other day with @offset about trading for Myles Turner.

Also liked Trey Lyles in the same draft who has not had the career I expected.

Monty had a lot of good things to say about Payne. Mentioned his burst and feel. Said he should be in the NBA.

Monty Williams said Devin Booker has had his own bubble where he's been working out with his dad and brother during all this.

Monty Williams said Devin Booker wants to go to Orlando and cement himself at another level. Mentioned making the All-Star team already and All-NBA being the next accolade in mind.

I think the Suns will waive Okobo before his contract becomes guaranteed this summer.

Carter can be a defensive specialist and has shown 3-point range on his shot. Although his contract is not guaranteed he deserves a strong look for next season.

Lecque and Jerome have guaranteed contracts next season.

I am not sure on Jerome, but Lecque we seem to be all in on developing him.

Monty says the Suns have like a 1% chance to play more than 8 games in Orlando so I'm expecting to see the younger players get a close look.

The Suns need to find out what they have in these players so I hope both get lots of minutes.
