"He's my kind of guy because of the way he plays and the way that he is," Weisbrod said. "We're speaking the same language. He's stubborn, competitive. He wants to win."

One topic of their 20-minute phone conversation Friday was last season when Francis belted much-larger Amare Stoudemire of the Phoenix Suns, who was celebrating excessively after dunking over Houston center Yao Ming.

"The night he hit Stoudemire was probably the night I decided he's a guy I could get used to," Weisbrod said. "I don't know him very well yet, but he's a guy we've identified as someone who could help us."

Hit? Belted? When some guy comes from your blind side and shoves your forearm to your throat..... man that's real brave...they wouln't be proud of it in even in hockey.

Excessive Celebrating when you are just letting out a scream directed at nobody?

And wanting to win and actually winning or helping someone win are totally different things. Stephon Marbury wants to win as bad as anyone but is still considered a total loser by many despite having much more success than Francis.

Rumors say Weisbrod is interessted in Vancouver's Todd Bertuzzi, Chris Childs, Mike Tyson, Chris Mills, the half Portland roster from 1990-2003, Jayson Williams.
Rasheed Wallace would also be an option if he stops controlling his termper, Weisbrod said.
He also consulted Jason Kidd last night and asked him for advice about his wife.

What did that guy study in harvard?

If the deal goes down I think Steve Francis is going to have very big year in Orlando. Also, even though it did not think it was right at the time, I can understand what he is saying about Francis hitting Amare Stoudemire. At least he shows some fire. Tracy McGrady just looks like he needs a nap most of the time.

he'll put up big numbers becouse he'll be option #1, #2 and #3 but i don't think that orlando will improve much as a team.

well, unless the Rockets make some other big news I don't think they will improve that much either. Now if JVG can convince Tracy McGrady to play defense I might change my mind. He'll probably end up on the injured list anyhow. :)

it will be interesting to see how many points mcgrady will average if he goes to houston. i heard an interesting stat that no player on a van gundy team has ever averaged 20 points. patrick ewing is closes at 19 points per game. and it is not like he has never had scorers on his team, houston, spreewell, ewing, and francis etc all averaged more than 20 points before they played for van gundy.

I think the Houston - Orlando deal will happen, but I'm not sure who will be included. Part of the reasons is that Francis will be a huge scorer in Orlando and no one the Suns are offering has that potential.

The second issue brought up in this piece is more interesting. No one ever accuses Marion of being "feistly" or hot headed. I'm skeptical as to whether that is even a positive trait for a wing man, but for some being feisty is a strength.

It is worth noting here, Weisbrod is a hockey guy. Those guy love feisty.

Seems like I remember the Suns going on about an 18-2 run just after Franchise pulled that little stunt.

Its one thing to get in someones face its a whole nother level to back it up with your play.

hehe yea the thing to remember about weisbrod is that he is a hockey guy, not a basketball guy. now what does that say about hockey that they think cheap shooting someone is good.
