Doesn't this just mean he is getting pressed a lot and not beating it?
I don't even care with his size, speed and skilled route running we were all told about prior to being drafted at #4 overall he shouldn't be last in the league in creating separation...

Take out SMB and I would agree with your list.

I agree SMB is the weakest, he was bad early in the year. I think he was better later in the year though after he missed a few games? I don't know if others think the same?

But ok, can remove him for now, I think there is upside there though.

SMB is really bad

We were tearing him up in the gameday threads

Better to play the young guys and let them get experience

If they make mistakes they can learn and improve their game, hopefully

SMB is what he is, below average or worse

Definitely replaceable

SMB also has the 19th highest cap hit for CBs in 2025. That's...not great.

SMB was bad in the first half of the season and above average in the 2nd half, it was quite jarring.

Do you actually believe that Pat Freiermuth and his 4.77 forty speed creates more separation than MHJr.

That chart is a ridiculous creation by some Niners fan. It tells you nothing.

I put the continued because I was pulling it out of another thread to its own.

Hopefully he nails this next one though

Man does that paint the picture of an offense that needs the ability to go deep either more often, with more success, or likely both. Essentially defenses play up on our top two pass catchers because there’s no fear of being beaten deep and obviously to play the run.

He dropped at least two INTs. As far as STV, he's is the fastest player on the Cardinals, while being the exact same size at Baker. He may have been an UDFA, but he is developing into a solid rotational player. Not beating him out this year says more about STV than Melton.

Here is a write up on him.
Agree. When people point to draft picks failures to unseat STV I rather view that as indicative of STV’s growth, potential and a plus for us. If he continues to improve and holds the position forever that’s a good thing. I love his speed and he fights. Still a long way to go to be good, but he’s got tools. If he and melton maximize their tools they might join Garrett as a really top tier *********. But that’s just based on the high end of the physical tool sets and less on the current skills.

(“3some” is banned, huh.)

While I don’t agree with “good,” for most of them (I think most are “average,” which was still a positive compared to what we had), I agree that SMB improved by the eye test as the season progressed.

Yeah not sure I’d go this far. I think our fanbase is so starved for talent that we tend to overrate average, and even slightly below average play to “good” because our internal comps are to hot garbage. So even slightly above average seems like an enormous step forward, but it’s still just slightly below average.

You know there’s more to gaining separation than just speed, right?

You can physically create separation, you can create separation with speed (yes), you can create separation with route running, you can even create it with subtle body movement.
