It's stupid as it's the rules, but given the owners are directly making money off gambling and the advertisements elevate the tv rights prices, they're hypocrites.

We're supposed to believe that players might betray the sport, but owners/teams can't. It's a joke.

They're now even going to have betting at the stadium on game day.

It should be all or nothing. If it's allowed, all should be. If not, none of it should happen. This is a black-and-white issue.

Until such rationality is implemented, the players need to abide by the hypocrisy, but that's what it is... hypocrisy.

Imo it's not hypocrisy in that player's knew the rules the when they cashed their first check. If you want to bet on Games then get one of your homies to place the bet. It can compromise the game. There are already people that believes games are fixed. People on this board in fact. No reason to give them more reasons to doubt.

The owners can’t gamble on football either…

How are they monitoring sports gambling from within the team facility? I feel like that kid from the Lions is getting hosed on this. So he throws a parlay on an NBA game before heading home. Why is that bad at all?
They use their phones...When something triggers an investigation, it's not hard to use the betting records of the website to track the IP's of where bets came in.

NFL players have personal relationships with other NFL players, aka inside information. If a hypothetical NFL player isn't making enough to keep his bills payed (which happens often) then gambling on games he has valuable insight on could greatly improve/impact his odds

If they're using the company wi-fi then the company knows what sites you are hitting.
That too. I'm not 100% on this, but I think I've read that these "approved" gambling sites are supposed to report to the NFL anything suspicious, like player names, etc, who access. I'm pretty sure that's how Calvin Ridley got caught. The company notified the NFL.

Just because players know the rules, doesn't mean the rules are Draconian.

I am not saying it is rights, wrong, or indifferent. I am just saying that was the rules that they signed up for, no different when players were suspended for smoking weed. Stupid rule, but it was the rules.
Except some of these rules changed, even after they 'signed their first check.' It became a rule just a couple/few years ago.

Of course, there will be changes to rules and new rules implemented because the landscape of gambling recently changed. You weren't able to place bets on your mobile phone in many states just a couple of years ago.

I am sure the league goes through this with owners and the player's association, etc. and everyone is informed of the changes/new rules.

I get it, but the rules against gambling have been around long before any of these players were born. They knew wit was against the rule and chose to violate them. I don't feel sorry for them.
