This whole "integrity of the game" BS just makes me roll my eyes. It's like all the hypocritcal yankee fans who despise Arod and wont acknowledge his records but they all adored Andy Petit and all the other cheaters that have worn the stripes.

Giants fans who think Barry belongs in the HOF but not Arod, what a joke! Or Brewers fans who wont even talk about Lyin Braun and the fact that not only did he cheat but he lied and ruined some poor guys life in the process. It just comes down to what team people are a fan of when it comes to how much integrity they want in their baseball lol.

They are all cheaters. It's pretty well documented that babe ruth survived on bacon and uppers his whole career. Mickey Mantle corked his bat. Several members of the 86 Mets have repeatedly said that the whole team did enough Greenies and Coke to kill an Elephant.

So even before the steroid era they were all cheating so who cares.

I say let them all do PED's and lets see how awesome human beings can really be lol. #Superpowers

So to answer the original question, I'd rather see Arod because the competition between him and bonds is perfectly fair, they both cheated in the same way so we can still see who the best roided up HR hitter of all time is! May the best cheater win.

agree with the bolded, the rest is kinda iffy. cheating has always been a part of baseball (well, really ANY sport) it's all about the competitive advantage.

the steroid era revived baseball when it was dead, and I grew up as a kid in the steroid era, these guys were super heroes to me. so i have "fond memories" of the homerun hitters, i look back with fond memories of those days but i'm glad those days are gone.

kids in the minors would stay in the minors if they didnt roid. they had to be better to compete for roster spots with guys who were roiding. pitchers had to roid to keep up with the batters. college kids had to roid to be looked at by the pro teams. it was a viscous cycle that was trickling down to highschool.

If professional baseball people (from owners on down) had this effect on college and even high school athletes, I say their behavior was dishonorable.

And if that is what it takes to entertain some fans, they, too, are dishonorable.

Just like politics, the system stinks. It is a microcosm of why we are no longer the most admired country in the world.

Oh ya I saw it first hand in highschool, and if you want to play at the next level and make the millions you dream of its sometning they have to consider.

But I agree

Why is it iffy though? (friendly question) I'm just talking about fan/baseball expert hypocrisy.... Fans of teams are notorious for forgiving their guy while going on a witch hunt for other cheaters. This is why Bonds fans dont want "Aroid the cheater" to take Bond's record, which is beyond hypocritical and borders on delusional. If somone says I loved Barry no matter what he did and I want him to hold the record, fine I can live with that but the whole I hate Arod because he is a cheater but I love Barry is iffy at best.

Baseball nostalgists are no better. How is Mickey Mantle playing with a corked bat, (and considering that MM was one of the "good guys" back then, who knows how many else in that era were doing the same thing) but how is that different than a guy using PED's? (more a question to the old guard than to you) I just dont buy it. They cant say; I'm going to forgive this guy and let his records stand but not this guy. It's all tainted IMO and you cant have it both ways.

Adderall is right at the top of the banned PED list today. Adderall is an amphetamene, which is basically what greenies and bennies which were all the rage in baseball for decades.

Captain America = PED user. :p

Last night, A-Rod hit HR #662 - putting him exactly 100 HR's behind all-time leader Barry Bonds. His previous HR put him ahead of Willie Mays for #4 on the all-time charts.

1) Can A-Rod hit 100 more homeruns before retiring? He has this year plus two more years left on his Yankees contract.

2) Given that Bonds has eclipsed Aaron already, who would you rather see be #1 - A-Rod or Bonds?

3) For Yankee fans - now that Ruth is #3, will it be a big deal if another person wearing a Yankee uniform passes him?

1) At the beginning of the season I would have said no way. Now I am not so sure. He has 16 home-runs so far this season and is 39 years old! He's an incredible hitter so the real question will be how long will he be able to remain healthy. DHing in the AL should extend his career a bit. I think he can do it if he gets 3 more seasons.

2) I have been a Dbacks fan ever since they open the gates at Bank One Ballpark (BOB). I loved watching the Schilling and Randy Johnson match-up against Bonds in 2000, 2001, and 2002. I have friends who have worked for the Diamondbacks and friends who have worked for the Giants and they have all said that Bonds is a total a**hole and a jerk to be around. That said, he's one of the top 3 baseball players of all time. Even before he began taking steroids (1990-1999) he was one of the top 3 players in the MLB (Ken Griffey Jr, Bonds, Frank Thomas) and he was probably better than those two. I think records are meant to be broken. IF A-Rod can somehow stay healthy and go for 3-4 more seasons and continue to hit this well, I will applaud his talent and enjoy watching him take the Home Run crown.

3)There's a good chance that he may not be on the Yankees when/if he breaks the record.

I'm happy for Alex. He's making a great comeback and could definitely reach the record. He also has over 1200 XBH.

He had a three HR game over the weekend, and yesterday, on his 40th birthday, hit another.

He is at 678 now

OK... My curiosity is peaked... Why then the fascination with a 2-time, perhaps now a 3-time known cheater who is carrying a team you hate??

Well, he's good looking ;)

One - just the climb up the charts.
Two - I have followed A-Rod since he was part of the Mariners dynamic trio of A-Rod, Griffey and Big Unit (my sister lives in Seattle, we would go to games).
Three - I'm enjoying the discomfort that many feel - yes, he cheated, but so did over 50% of MLB, and MLB knew about it and turned a blind-eye, as long as they benefited from it.

MLB tried to make reminders from the Steroid Era go away, but A-Rod lives on, a burr under the saddle of the MLB hypocrites.

Whatever floats our boat I guess...

FWIW, I would bet a lot of money that he's juicing right now. Nobody sits out a year and comes back at the age of 40 and then puts up these types of #'s... He is indeed a painful scar on the face of MLB...

The year of rest did him good.

You don't think he is being tested?

Hank Aaron hit 40 at the same age. So you saying Aaron cheated as well?

Most players cheated. Mays took greenies and Mantle injected hormones. Aaron said he tried amphetamines when they were getting popular but didn't like it. If a player today said they only took something once they'd get killed for it. The older players always get the benefit of the doubt.

Also I don't even consider it cheating since baseball knew what was happening and looked the other way until Canseco exposed everyone. If you're not enforcing the rules you're actually promoting them to break it.
