OT: A Weekend to Remember

[Catfish]

During this time of unrest and of threats to our way of life, (both from abroad, and from within our own government), let us not fail to take time this weekend to remember those who paid the ultimate price to make this country great.

Let us remember with reverance, those who died to make us a nation, free of the tyranny of a King who would have us subject to the Church of England, instead of being free to choose our own way to worship.

Let us remember those who died to free men from the bonds of ownership by other men, during the great civil war that cost half a million American lives.

Let us remember those who died during the Great War in Europe, and who lie in Flanders Field.

Let us rember those who died all over the globe during WWII to keep us free from the Nazi's and the Imperialists.

Let us also remember those who died in Korea, Vietnam, The Gulf War, Afghanistan, and Iraq, and the countless smaller wars when the call to arms was made.

We are truly blessed as a nation, and we owe that to those who we should remember this Memorial Day Weekend, those who paid the ulitmate price for our freedom. God Bless America, and God Bless the American Warrior, who places the freedom of his nation above even his own life.

Thanks to you and all the Vets on this board. I know we have a couple of men on this board who are serving now and not able enjoy the cook-outs and the Suns games and the race tomorrow. I think I speak for everyone when I say, "Thank you. Keep your heads down and come home safe."

And to those who gave the "last full measure"... I'm grateful. Thank you.

Catfish, you literally brought tears to my eyes when I read this. To those of you who are my brothers in arms (albeit different times) I thank you all for what you are doing and for doing what you must do. Please, at your leisure join with me in a toast, raise your glasses high: "For lost friends, we salute you. You will never be forgotten. For those of you that continue to fight the good fight, we salute you. Come home safe." For those of you that have never experienced the horrors of war, thank God. These men and women of our armed forces are the true heroes. Lest we forget.

I am in awe of this generation of young men and women who are risking all to protect us. They do us great honor.

Pardon me if I didn't say this properly. It's difficult to type with tears running down my cheeks.

I'm lifitng a toast to all who died so I have the freedom to agree or disagree with this signing or that signing, the freedom to pray when and where I want, the freedom to watch football instead of Lifetime, and the freedom to yell as loud as I want when the Cards throw an INT....you get the picture.

Over the last 15-odd years I've moved the family all over this great country - I've served in Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Virginia, Northern and Southern California, Washington State, Hawaii, and now, Maine. Every place I go I am amazed by the patriotism of the local folks.... At the first 2-3 duty stations I figured that patriotism was due to the large military presence in those communities. Now I'm convinced that we just have an OVERWHELMING majority that really, truly love America and go out of their way to support our troops. And I was very pleasantly surprised at the revelation that this "patriotic demographic" covered everyone - conservatives, liberals, non-partisians, rich, poor, young, old, rural, urban, etc., etc. And so, for me, it is both humbling and my greatest honor and pleasure to put that uniform on everyday. The opportunities I have had in this brief career have been amazing. And I cannot possibly describe the pride I have when I get the pleasure of representing my people - YOU GUYS - on foreign soil.

Thank you all so very much for the opportunity to serve this great nation and to provide such a great life for my wife and kids. And thanks to all of the vets who came before me and left me this incredible legacy. I will always try to do my best to make you proud.

Lieutenant-----I was not at all surprised to hear your words of honor and pleasure, when describing how you felt about your service to our Country. Those are almost the very words that came to my lips when I purchased some flowers to take to the cemetary this morning. When a grocery store clerk thanked me for my service, my reply was that it was MY Honor, and MY Privelege to have served. I truly believe that Most of us feel that way, and I thank you for continuing this legacy. You and your generation make the rest of us VERY PROUD INDEED. May you go in God's Grace and ultimately bring peace to our world.
