Suspended indefinitely, cleaned out his locker, apparently going to check into rehab.

Good for Aldon Smith, entering a treatment facility after Friday's arrest It's what the team wanted. Couldn't force him. Had to be voluntary

#49ers will place Aldon Smith on the non-football injury list Monday or Tuesday, per source, as soon as he registers at treatment facility

Bay Area News is saying the team suspended him too but I guess that might not be true.

Voluntary makes more sense, why let a guy play and then suspend him indefinitely after the game when you knew the details before the game.

One of the reports said he still had his foot on the accelerator after he hit the tree so he pretty clearly has a problem.

It's so ridiculous that the 9ers allowed him to play today... Yea - I'm certain if any of us had put up a rap sheet like his, that we would still be able to call our own shots and make our own rules... Pathetic...

I believe it. When you crash you car dui at 7 am when you have NFL practice in a couple hours, there's alot more going on than mere alcohol love. Probably what happened, once he got in trouble, that gave them reason to start watching him. Then they realize 'Oh this guy's on coke/meth/oxy/whatever 24/7. Can't get through the day without it.' Alot more people in that boat than you might think. All it takes is a drama event like a car crash to bring everybody's attention to it. Just a theory.

Apparently the league doesn't like it if the team pre-empts their power. They've made that clear in the past to the teams that have suspended players before the Commissioner could go through the process and determine the appropriate punishment.

I believe there are implications with the players union too.

Yeah, it's just best to let the league go through the process so the players rights aren't stepped on.

Misleading thread title. Makes it seem as if Smith was cut by SF.

Even though he plays for our rival, I hope he gets his life back on track. He's got too much talent to let it all go out to waste.

Okay, fine, I'll be a decent guy. But can't we at least hope the 9ers cut him and that he gets his life together playing for some other team?

Hope this guy gets straight before he kills someone like the Dallas dude. He obviously has an issue with alcohol and driving.

Mods edit the thread title to something that isn't misleading.

What exactly is misleading?

I assume he means he thought out in SF means he is gone and no longer a 49er?

But if that were the case I would have said out of SF permanently, not out in SF with no permanently.

But i guess I can see where someone would see out in SF and think it means he's released.
