7-9, for almost 60 yards right now, really looks like a MUCH more confident player this year, so far doesn't look scared at all. Rolling him out a lot, 8-10 now.

They've said he's had a terrific camp but I was pretty skeptical until tonight, it's preseason, but he looks like a totally different kid this year. 9-11 now.

Still think Leinart is going to be much better, if he EVER signs.

I relly don't look into it that much...both teams are playing both vanilla offenses and defenses....If it were week one, i can see Alex Smith me 3-11 with 2 picks

I believe that I've read somewhere that the Bears have more returning players than any other team in the league - 21 of 22 starters are returning if I remember it correctly. That means the Bears have the least interest of all teams in playing the first string.

I'm not saying Smith hasn't progressed, but I'm not putting a lot into it when he's looking good against the Bears in preseason.

His receiver core is just awful. I can't see him having a good year.

Antonio Bryant would be a star if he ever had an actual NFL quarterback throwing to him in his career.

He had Quincy Carter, Charlie Frye, and now Alex Smith. You could understand if he's a little frustrated.

I seriously doubt that. Anquan Boldin looked like a star with Jeff Blake and Josh McCown throwing him the ball.

That's a good point. Even though having a quality guy throwing a wideout the ball can help the wideout excel talent shines on it's own.

I wonder if Norv Turner isn't the perfect match for Alex Smith. Despite his record as a head coach, he seems to be an outstanding coordinator. Will Smith develop into a star like Aikman or someone servicable like Fielder?

He had over 1000 reception yards and 69 receptions for Cleveland and that was with Trent Dilfer throwing him the ball. I would say that he is a decent receiver in the league.

Oh I agree, I'm just saying that compared to last preseason when you could see fear, he's come a long way. He's still very much a work in progress but for me just watching him actually LOOK downfield instead of staring at the pass rush, impressed me.

I still think Leinart is going to be a better QB, but I was impressed with Smith last night.
