I live in Harrisburg Pa and I am not sure what we are going to get. Fairly far inland from the coast. Guess I should check and see what they are calling for us here. I remember Agnes in 72 and that was one bad storm. Flooding beyond all belief.

Wow, that IS big.

I have friends that live and work down the shore in Jersey. They said they are having mandatory evacuations in Atlantic and Cape May counties. Atlantic City resorts (which I guess includes the casinos) are not taking any reservations for Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Hope everyone gets through this thing okay.

They are worried that the storm surge could flood the tunnels and the subways.

JFK Airport could be under 20 feet of water.

Stay safe everyone.

Fill up the gas tanks today. And Linder's right. More water, Jeff. I'll add the pre-moistened wet wipes in case you can't take a shower for a week. (Giant size available by the adult diapers, lol) Do it for those you love.

You scared me. Then I realized we could fill a bunch of pitchers and water bottles with water & put them in the fridge or freezer.

Plus there are various bottles of juice and soda we've got hanging around.

We'll be OK.

In 1985 when Gloria hit over 500,000 people in CT were without power. I lost power for 11 days others I know for two full weeks. This storm is taking a similar path, should be a little stronger, larger in size and is going to affect A LOT more people in the NYC metro area and New England. IF you lose power and if it is only a couple of days count yourself extremely lucky. These next 2-3 weeks are going to suck. Big time.

Good luck and stay safe.

I'm on stand by to go there post storm and help with security, clean up or whatever they deem necessary. Hopefully it won't be too bad and I won't be needed.

The Mrs. and I just got back from 3 wonderful days in Laughlin, Nevada. Irene was about ALL the news stations in Las Vegas were talking about. You guys back east, take heed of the advice from local governments and stay safe. Ride her out safely. We will pray for your safety and for your property to be spared.

I'm a real Boy Scout (even though I was a Girl Scout but they were no fun) about being prepared. Too many earthquakes. When you wake up at 6am to see your roof splitting into two pieces, and you can suddenly see the sky, it does something to your head.

Did you know you can drink your toilet tank water if you don't use those blue things? :p

Stay safe. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way!

One more thing: Cash money on hand in case the banks close and the power is out and the ATMs don't work. Yes. I am a Boy Scout.

Look this is NOT funny. That is really scary.

But, I will say I LMAO when I read that. Especially the bold part.

Thanks to you Dems and all of you who are looking out for us. I am nervous. I have trees all around my house---and my house is 67 years old. I can just imagine the horror that so many victims of natural disasters have faced---and my heart goes out to them.

I wish all of you a safe and miraculous escape from this impending disaster. Having just read "Unbroken" by Laura Hillenbrand, I feel inspired. Peter King and Adam Schefter called it one of the three greatest books they have ever read---and now I know why. It is as profound a story about the human will, perseverance and personal redemption as I have ever known.

Thanks again for all the well wishes. The same in return to all of you, always.

May be too late, but here are a few more thoughts.

If you have pets, make sure you have their food put away with your emergency provisions.

Make sure you have all your meds on hand in case you need to take them with you fast. You don't want to be a diabetic camped out on your roof without your insulin, for example.

Mitch, I have ALL of you in my prayers.

An old one: "Father, all the elements of nature obey your command. Calm the storms that threaten us, and turn our fear of your power into praise of your goodness."

Stay strong and be safe. May our Lord bless each of you, your families and your homes. May He calm this storm and provide for and protect each of you.

We are all thinking of you. Blessings.

(And, dear Lord, please keep Mitch's trees where they belong. Thank you.)

The more reports I hear, the more I would advise people to prep for floods more than wind.

Just an FYI.

Also, should be a "tropical storm" by the time it hits NYC.

JFK Airport could be under 20 feet of water.

Transit is shut down in NY and NJ, almost as far inland as Philly. That is pretty major.

I remember that storm. It wasn't as severe where I was in Jersey, but it was one of the worst.

One of my best friends works at the Borgata in Atlantic City. Just heard from her that she is staying there til at least Sunday. :( I am concerned. Even though many places have evacuated, many people still remain behind to work. Please keep them in your prayers as well.

Absolutely but the impression I got was her friend was not essential personnel.

Yup. Reservations agent and all-around customer service person at Steve Wynn's Borgata.

She better be getting paid accordingly. She's got a young family at home.

At least they'll have a room for her.
