Bengals’ QB AJ McCarron won his grievance against Cincinnati and now will be an unrestricted free agent, per source.

For soon-to-be free agent AJ McCarron, the ramifications are massive. A starting-caliber QB is now on the market. He wants to play, he’s gonna get paid a lot to play. And the #Bengals need a new backup.

Bengals really messed up on this one. Adds one more potential QB for teams like the Cards.

That's why there is no need to panic. This is one of the best FA QB off seasons in a long time. Cousins value went down a notch.

If one of the needy qb teams that draft ahead of us sign him, it could drop one of the qbs to us.

Reports are that McCarron wants big money. Really? Good luck with that.

At best McCarron should aim for Glennon's money last year. Anything more, McCarron will be asked to take a hike to South Mountain.

But, in light of Glennon, shouldn't teams be leery of paying unproven QBs in the neighborhood of $17-19M a year?

McCarron's camp pitch will be that he is better than Glennon. Which will land him around that money. But I doubt he will get it. That's the ceiling IMO

If McCarron were tossed in this draft class with the others, where would he rank?

Bengals reportedly got offered a 2nd and 3rd by the Browns for McCarron before the Browns messed up the paperwork.

Looks like the Browns can get their guy for $$$ and keep their hoard of picks for the rest of the draft. That'll teach the Bengals to get near the Browns. LOL.

This is exciting, even if he doesn't end up in Cardinal red. It will really give us an opportunity to pick from a lot of choices.

I don't know that I want him as our starting QB, but it's all dependent on price. If given the choice of him or Bradford for the same basic money, I'd probably pick him. Just more "upside" and excitement over a young guy that hasn't been hurt.

3 games started, 854 yards, 5 TDs, 2 INTs, and a 65%+ completion percentage in 2015 is pretty solid.

I mean, if you were ever stumping for Glennon, this is better to me. He passed the eye test doing this too.
Sigh.

McCarron really did well in 2015 when Dalton was injured near the end of the season. Here are some highlights:

On December 13, 2015, starting quarterback Andy Dalton fractured the thumb on his throwing hand while trying to make a tackle in the first quarter against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although the Steelers won 33–20, McCarron came in and completed 22 of 32 passes for 280 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions.[62] The following week, McCarron became the first Alabama quarterback to win an NFL game since Jeff Rutledge of the New York Giants in 1987, when the Bengals beat the San Francisco 49ers 24–14. In his first career start he completed 15 of 29 passes and one touchdown.[63] On December 28, 2015, McCarron completed 22 of 35 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown in a 17-20 loss to the Denver Broncos.[64] On January 9, in the AFC Wild Card round, McCarron completed 23 of 41 passes for 212 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, but the Bengals lost to the Steelers, 18–16, ending their season

Here's his 2014 pre-draft profile by NFL.com:

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2014/profiles/aj-mccarron?id=2543497

His stats as a pro in Cincy:

Throw him in the mix and rank him with the other available QBs either draft/FA/trade. We are at #15 with little cap space. If he is unsigned come the draft, consider making an offer.

We aren't too bad with cap space. We currently have about $23mil & can easily add another $10mil with a couple of moves.

I heard on the radio this week (Mike Jurecki) that the Cards worked out McCarron before the draft in 2014 and were very interested in him. However, they also worked out Logan Thomas and BA, being a grad of Virginia Tech, pushed drafting Thomas over McCarron. We all know how that turned out.
Jurecki also said that the Cards are interested in McCarron and were starting to watch tape on him of his preseason games.
