I hate seeing this, even from a divisional rival. The guy is lost for the season giving effort in a preseason game that does not mean anything.

It's why preseason sucks. I can barely stand to watch our games since only bad things for the regular season can happen. It's not going to happen, but I'd love to see preseason go away. It's BS that it's necessary for modern football.

Good or bad im not debating. But i definitely think you would have some real sloppy football at the beginning of the year without it. You would also have more injuries in regular practice since IMO they would have to amp it up with no pre season games.

I got the nfl preseaon app tonight. Just as it came up, I see a Bears payer being carted off on a stretcher, immobilized. Couldn't tell who. It was third quarter, so not a starter, but that sight always makes me sick.

It was Brandon Hardin.

Nonsense. Preseason is totally necessary. If it were just practicing and no preseason we'd never see Bradley crushing RB's. Never see Bethel blocking kicks. Never see Williams making real moves in real games. None of that.

I think you're wrong too, that preseason will never go away. It will.

Going to make for some sloppy-ass football though.

The NCAA and high schools jump right into to it but the NFL can't? And, don't give me the line about how the NCAA schools all schedule cupcakes to open. That just isn't true, look at the schedules.

Once upon a time preseason was a necessity because the NFL was a part time job. That's not the case anymore. They are in shape and know the playbook before camp starts.

The NFL isn't the NCAA. Even the jump from high school to college is nothing compared to the jump from college to pro. These dudes get paid for making plays, and it's a whole different intensity.

As far as preseason: college players that you cite need it more than anyone. To get the speed down, the physicality, the athleticism. The pro game is nothing like college, it's not even close.

Preseason isn't for your 1's or even 2's, it's to figure out what you have coming out of college, in the draft. You see the promise, everyone does. Without it they just ride bench until it's their turn in the rotation.

And I agree that it'll disappear. When that happens you can kiss fundamentals goodbye. Pro coaches fix bad technique from tape. Without preseason tape there's nothing to work with until they've already sucked a couple of real games.

I heard LaMichael James might have a nasty injury too. Combined hat would be a serious blow to the Niners plans in the running game.

49ers coach Jim Harbaugh stated after Saturday night's preseason game that Brandon Jacobs' left knee injury is not season ending.

Harbaugh says Jacobs' patellar tendon and ACL are both intact, and the injury is "not the you-don't-come-back-from variety." Harbaugh did acknowledge that Jacobs will miss "some time," but he's apparently escaped a severe tear or rupture of the knee. It sounds like a sprain, possibly a severe one. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that X-rays were negative, but Jacobs will have a Sunday MRI. The Niners will know how much action he'll miss after that.
