why go through the drama to resign him? Seems as if they would have been better off to let him leave last year.

Dumb moment for my week... I saw the title and thought "Man, we can use a Left Tackle. McNeil is a stud, why would they release him??"

I don't know why, but my gut is saying Chicago. They're a one-back team right now, and I think maybe they could use LT2 to spell Forte.

Just a hunch.

The Chiefs picked up Marcus Allen when Allen was 32 and he was effective for them for 4 more years.

Hard to believe a guy as well regarded as Allen only rushed for over 1000 yards 3 times in a 16 year career.

I think that LT still is a fit for certain teams. He is not the runner that he used to be, but he still does the little things well. He can still catch the ball, pick up blitzes, and run the screen. I can see a team like the Texans taking a look at him or even possibly the Eagles. Basically look for teams that will use him in the short passing and screen game.

that's a good point. then there is the BUS who remained effective for a long time in a complimentary role. I think LT knows he's not the back he once was and would like to help a team that is in the running for a SB. He would fit just about anywhere if he is willing to share the spotlight and take less $. I've always liked LT and wish he won the heisman. he had a historic career in college and it transferred to the pro game.

You guys are acting like he's done. The man still ran for 11 or 12 TDs last year. I wouldn't go comparing him to Edge just yet.

Because scoring TDs from 1 yard out due to Philip Rivers moving the ball up the field means he's still good...He has lost all his burst and explosiveness.

I would assume the reason he was released was because he wants to much money, if hte chargers arent willign to give rediculous money to old LT then why would anybody else...Hes going to have to give in and play for a small contract.

True. But their careers don't really compare in that way.

Tomlinson has had 3410 touches (carries and receptions) thus far in his 9 year career. In Allen's first 9 years in the NFL he had only 2363 touches; Tomlinson had almost 1.5 times as many (a third more) touches in the first nine years than Allen. Allen had 3637 touches in his 16 year career.

In Allen's final two years with the Raiders, before going to Kansas City, he had only 173 touches, total. So basically he had a two year period to recuperate, while staying in playing shape, before finishing his career in KC. Tomlinson has averaged 379 touches per year.

Tomlinson has had nearly as many touches (collisions) in his nine year career as Allen had in 16 years. He was the San Diego offense for a few years...

In the right situation, Tomlinson might be productive. But any team expecting for him to be their workhorse, as he was in San Diego, is going to be disappointed at the outcome.

By the way, Jerome Bettis 3679 touches in 13 year career.

what were the dinosaurs like?:D

:mulli:

I'm not much older than you (or maybe I am) but I remember LT lighting up QBs, talking smack and snorting cocaine like it was going out of style.

He IS the real LT. Ladanian is simply the man who invented the "Electric Glide"
