NFL Hall of Famer Cortez Kennedy is dead at the age of 48 ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Kennedy played 11 seasons for the Seattle Seahawks ... and was an 8x Pro Bowler. He was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

We spoke to Orlando PD who confirmed Kennedy's passing ... but they added "there is nothing suspicious" about his death.

We've spoken to family members who say they're currently traveling to Orlando.

Cause of death is still unclear.

Very sad.

He was one of the first big guys in the trenches that I actually watched. Guy was a BEAST! RIP

Very sad. As a Hurricane and Seahawk fan they players who played for both are always a little but more interesting.

Tez was a bright spot in many dark years. Quiet guy who just played hard and was also active in the community.

Like many 'canes of that era he would train in Miami with other Miami guys. I'm sure those facilities and competition level were higher than what was in Seattle at the time. However, the Seahawks wrote into his contact he wasn't allowed to train/camp outside the state of Washington. When Behring moved the equipment to Anaheim and can called the staff and team down to work out, Tez told him no can do - my contact says I need to workout in Washington. It was hard for him to be more popular, that actually did it though.

Will definitely miss Tez.

He was a beast and I loved to watch him play.
The modern day gladiators are dying young at an alarming rate.

I have always respected his play on the field and the man he was off the field.

Cause of death of Seahawk Hall of Famer Cortez Kennedy remains unclear as family, friends struggle with his passing
While friends and family members struggled a day later to come to grips with the tragedy of the sudden passing of legendary Seattle Seahawk Cortez Kennedy on Tuesday, a cause of death remained unclear.

A spokesman for the District Nine Medical Examiner’s Office in Orange County, Fla., said an official cause of death likely won’t be determined until results of toxicology tests come back, which could take 10-12 weeks.

Kennedy’s stepfather Joe Harris said in a phone interview with the Seattle Times Wednesday morning that the family remains uncertain what occurred.

“We really don’t know what happened,’’ Harris said. “No conclusions yet at this time.’’

Harris said Kennedy, who was 48, had been complaining of headaches in recent days but that “I don’t know if that would have been the cause of death.’’ Kennedy also had diabetes but it’s unclear if that played any role.
