I'm thinking it means we may trade back into the first round from 48 and pick a guy who wasn't quite worthy of 16 but we think his talent can be developed into something big..so we want the fifth year option on him.

Right now a "developmental " OT or DT isn't out of the question for this team. Developmental does not mean they kid isn't ready to play. Just that he isn't ready to play to his capabilities.
If I had to guess, I would say OT. There should be a couple guys in the 26 to 35 range who have the right traits...and we have OT pretty much locked down this season. Wouldn't hurt to get the 5th year on a guy you will mostly redshirt his rookie season.
We aren’t in position to do this with a first round pick. We need some success this year.

This is the wrong draft to expect a rookie to be the driving force behind our team's success.
And this is not the team that can afford to essentially redshirt their first round pick. I expect a contributor. Said nothing about the pick being a driving force.

Virtually every player not in the top dozen is to some extent developmental. I like Grant and think he will become a 2 function DT. However now he’s more of an anchor. A few of the guards may be immediate starters. Most of the Edges will be rotational, situational players. OTs may start, but likely not in the early games. If that’s what they mean by developmental, then they’re right.

Redshirt to me means little if any contribution the first year. Pick 16 in the draft shouldn’t be in that category.

I really think the second 1st rounder is for Simmons - he is the developmental player I think.
given his injury, you absolutely cant assume he is ready for game action week 1

this would be another Garret Williams situation -- PUP for most of the season, with maybe actual practice for the last 1/3 of the season

Ok. We keep our pick at 16. Then try to get back in for a second first. Would have to know the cost but on the surface I am not sure why in this draft.
Thats why Im thinking it must be an OT...Not a strong class for them but there are a few..most expected to be gone in the first...maybe that Simmons kid from OSU

Jaxson is my choice this year of late pick QB that could turn into a good starter

Last year my choice was Hooker who may get sone playing time this year
What's your definition of a late pick QB? There is a chance he is the 2nd QB off of the board, but most likely 3rd...
