It's not greed this is the market 14 million seems like a lot until you consider its a billion dollar bussiness and the reason it's a billion dollar bussiness is because people are paying to see the guys on the field.

The NFL owners can rip up that contract anytime they want as soon as you get hurt your no good to them.

No they can't.

Honestly you sound super biter and angry towards these men I wonder why you even watch if you think so little of them.

Plenty of pro athletes who are smart and have made great choices and Bell seems to be one that knows his worth.
We shall see when and if he becomes a F A. I suspect that number will come down. That number is what he wants, not what he is worth.

This simply isn't true.

The CDC's occupational suicide list:

1. Farmworkers, fishermen, lumberjacks, others in forestry or agriculture (85 suicides per 100,000)

2. Carpenters, miners, electricians, construction trades (53)

3. Mechanics and those who do installation, maintenance, repair (48)

4. Factory and production workers (35)

5. Architects, engineers (32)

6. Police, firefighters, corrections workers, others in protective services (31)

7. Artists, designers, entertainers, athletes, media (24)

8. Computer programmers, mathematicians, statisticians (23)

9. Transportation workers (22)

10. Corporate executives and managers, advertising and public relations (20)

11. Lawyers and workers in legal system (19)

12. Doctors, dentists and other health care professionals (19)

13. Scientists and lab technicians (17)

14. Accountants, others in business, financial operations (16)

15. Nursing, medical assistants, health care support (15)

16. Clergy, social workers, other social service workers (14)

17. Real estate agents, telemarketers, sales (13)

18. Building and ground, cleaning, maintenance (13)

19. Cooks, food service workers (13)

20. Child care workers, barbers, animal trainers, personal care and service (8)

The list you gave is a fallacy because it includes street cops, firefighters, and other protective services and not corrections by itself. I lost count how many officers either committed suicide or attempted suicide at my jail alone. In that same time period, with all of the departments in my area, can't recall a single police officer, firefighter, or other first responder committing suicide.

Life simply isn't fair at times. I wish I had better athleticism or could sing or create art or be an Einstein. Doesn't mean I hate those who do have those gifts or begrudge them getting the most out of those abilities. I do add the caveat that as long as it doesn't do harm to others.
I agree. I'm not complaining at all about my lot in life. In fact, I feel blessed with what I have. I have a good job that pays well(with us finally settling our contract I'm about to be paid a lot better). I have a wonderful family, I own an RV, a car, a house, etc. My issue here is that people talk about how these athletes put their bodies on the line for the game and my point is, no one is forcing them to and that there are people who do far more dangerous work who don't get paid a 10th of what pro athletes make. I say get all that you can get but if you sign a contract, honor that contract. When you hold out, you hurt the team for your own personal gain. That is not a team player.

Good post. I think both you and I would honor the contract but I don't begrudge those who don't.

I do because the team suffers. Management doesn't have the option of not paying and demanding you take a lower salary if they feel you're not playing to the level of your contract. Oh, they can bench you but they still have to pay you.

Um the state of NJ would disagree with you. I have full police powers and yes, I do have a gun for stuff outside the prison. In fact, as a sergeant, in certain jobs I carry a gun but inside the wall/fence, it would be silly to be armed dontcha think? But we do have armed posts. So do not speak of things you have no clue about. Oh, incidentally, the federal government classifies me as a police officer hence I'm authorized to carry my off duty weapon anywhere in the country.

Hey *******. Why do you have to go there. I know why. Because I proved you wrong so you have to act like the immature idiot you are.

You didn't prove anyone wrong on anything, it's not a topic where there is a right or wrong. You sound like a biter super disrespectful old man who's not happy with how his life turned out and is angry that these young kids are doing better.

Haters gonna hate and ainters gonna ain't.

Look no further than the Cowboys. Ran DeMarco Murray into the ground then got someone younger and showed him the door.
Are you talking about Elliott? because he came in later. the guy they tried to replace Murray with was a disgrace... showing that the RB position cannot just be played by anyone....and I think he's in jail now for rape and previously was in jail for stealing underwear. Classic Jerry Jones mismanagement. cowboys were 4-12 the following season murray left and only then they were able to get Elliott. Murray could have had another 1-2 good seasons with dallas if they paid him...what a lot of people don't realize is murray wasn't used a lot in his earlier days so in the cowboys offense I don't think he was necessarily done. he just retired after last season and had some productive time in Tennessee. I think Bell knows that his time is limited and he wants to maximise his situation which I don't blame him.

The article you posted states correction officers are at 34.8 per 100,000. That still puts it at fifth on the list. 85 per 100,000 for solitary workers is number one.
