the fact that my rag tag florida marlins have the best record in the bigs - it may not last, but right now I really don't care - they are playing a fun style of baseball, have a 7 game streak going, have a new stadium set to break ground in november, are about to lock up hanley and have a .622 winning percentage - best in the bigs

5.11.08 is a good day to be a marlins fan - and i don't always get to say that

thanks for letting me indulge...................

And you are probably the only Marlin fan in the Greater Phoenix area

erroneous - i've met quite a few when they play out here, but the numbers are definitely smaller as florida folk tend not to move much to the desert

now a rays fan - that's something i've yet to see........................

I'm not a real Marlins fan or anything but I like them and Hanley Ramirez is something special. I remember when the Red Sox traded him I thought they might have been making a big mistake. I guess not since they have had a lot of success with Beckett but Ramirez is becoming right up there among the best players in the league and it's going to be big for the Marlins franchise if they can lock up Hanley for a long time and give them a face of their franchise when they move into their new ballpark.

The Marlins have the best player development and scouting team by far in the Majors. Their ability to get stud after stud through their farm system and have the depth to replace them when they get too pricey. They rival only the A's with their ability to throw rookies into the fire and have them produce.

 They're my #2 team. Second to the DBacks of course. I went to their last game here (last season).

I've been a fan for about 3 years now. Obviously I can't follow them like I do the DBacks but I check the box scores daily and read as much as I can. BJ's the men.

Baseball gods are mad at this thread. Marlins have now lost two in a row.

sports gods have never really shown me any consideration in the past so I don't really believe anyone is angered - although one has to question how you get no one out on an infield hit to the first basemen with bases loaded..............

it was short lived - but such is life - have 2 more in cincy to try and take a split - not the most confident in nolasco and miller in that shoebox of a stadium - will need some bats the next two days

right on - nice thing about baseball is you can adopt a #2 team to keep it interesting because the two leagues really don't compete against each other that much

i have to say i'm hoping the tigers can get it going and i think i may go to one of the games this weekend - so many ex-marlins on that team

I'll use this as the off topic thread.

What happened to Ryan Dumpster in Chicago? He's posessed or something

He stopped walking people so much. His main problem as a starter was that he gave up too many walks (ala Livan or DD). Now that he walks less people, his ERA is down and he has become a much more dominant starter.

Dempster is an ex-marlin, so I approve of this use - plus he's a huge wrestling fan

control has always been an issue of his and he often fell victim to the "one big inning" where it all kind of fell apart - he also had some injuries a while back

if his control holds he can be very servicable - but I wouldn't be that confident at this point that he can go 6-7 innings on a consisten basis without having it fall apart a bit

It wouldn't surprise me if he's the only fan within the greater Miami area as well..

I can't remember the last time they got a sell out... lol

they did OK during their two world series titles ;)

but in all seriousness, attendance there is pretty sad and there are many factors to it - hopefully the new ballpark helps out though

I played High School ball with Cody Ross, so I follow the Marlins a bit. They are just like the D'Backs: Young and unaware that they should just roll over for the big payrolls in their division.

Even during the WS runs.. Most people went to see the Yankees and the Indians. Its kind of sad that most were filled with bandwagon hoppers, but oh well.

Whats the reason they aren't going right now? Ive heard that its because of the hot-ass sun beating down on everyone and its a sweat-fest with the uber high humidity. Better hope they're putting a roof on it.

that's 100% false about the WS - bandwagon people yes, some opposing fans yes (you're filling a football stadium...........) - in 2003 they pulled in over 65k per game throughout the entire playoffs and I remember a certain local team not selling out a stadium with 20k less seats............................

miami is a bandwagon town, it's a town where people aren't going to drive out of their way to sit in a hot muggy stadium and then get rained on, deal with a 40 minute delay and then just be damp and muggy (it seems like it rains during 60% of home games at least a little..........)

the new stadium will help and it will have a roof - they will also need to spend some $$ and put on a good product - do these things for a period of 4-5 years then I think the market will start to flourish - TV ratings are very high, it just doesn't translate to the gate
