According to the rumor mill, Baker Mayfield was managements choice and not his in the draft evaluation. He is also rumored to be in coaching limbo. This stance by him just might be a bit too strong.... or not. In the perfect scenario Mayfield sits as long as possible and that Tyrod Taylor doesn't poop the sheets. If he were me I would STHU.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...rowns-starter-after-baker-mayfield-impresses/

"This weekend belonged to Baker Mayfield, who made his debut as the Browns' new franchise quarterback at rookie minicamp, but the 2018 season still belongs to Tyrod Taylor. On Friday, after Mayfield impressed at his first NFL practice, Browns coach Hue Jackson reemphasized that Taylor will remain the Browns' starter -- no matter what."

"I'm not going to back off of this," Jackson said, per Cleveland.com. "We can keep writing this narrative, Tyrod Taylor's the starting quarterback of this football team, and that won't change."

BTW Jackson is 1-31 with the Browns.

Even hired his coach in waiting. Todd Haley.

  • The Cleveland Browns' offense officially belongs to offensive coordinator Todd Haley. A year after head coach Hue Jackson called the plays during a winless season, during which the Browns offense ranked 24th in yards gained and dead last in points scored, he's ceded all control to his new offensive coordinator.

On Friday, as the Browns opened up rookie minicamp, Jackson revealed just how much power Haley holds in his new position. The answer? "Total autonomy."

"It's not my playbook," Jackson said, per NFL.com. "He can't go call my offense any more than I can go call his offense. There's a respect level there, as I said a long time ago when I hired him, he's one of the best in the business. That's why he's here. So he has to do those things his way and he's done a great job."

I don't understand why Jackson was retained. Every team in the league has the talent to win a few games. His team has won one game in two years.

Jackson not only wasn't part of the decision making on draft day, but he wasn't even informed who the Browns were going to take with first pick until a couple days prior to the draft.

The next coach will have no investment in Mayfield. They could end up drafting their quarterback of the future for the third year running.

Well, the guy has one more head coaching victory than the rest of us. Seriously, could any one of us do worse?
I bet money a blind squirrel will find a nut he maybe the worst coach in the worst organization ever. Browns could have won a couple games by default last year

Yeah, we are talking about Tyrod Taylor, who has already proven he is an inferior starting qb. He is going to be fired whether that is his intention or not.

Doesn’t seem to matter how many times they change the front office that organization still stinks.

Why try so hard to protect Taylor or to limit competition. Baker doesn't need protection from pressure either.

Hue may have to decide if this is the hill to die on on a couple of months

It's the Browns and their owner is a fruitcake
The issue is the owner. He cleaned house and got a new GM but kept Jackson as the HC. Makes no sense as a new GM should be allowed to hire the HC especially with Jackson having won one game in the two years as HC. Unbelievable.

I think the owner made a pact with him: tank this season for the #1 overall pick, and you'll get another season.

Don't think so, and the player that got cut? Why didn't they get another season for the tank? Sometimes they just suck, and sometime a GM wants a year before bringing in "his guy". Sometime an owner doesn't want to pay two staffs for too long so they tell the new GM before he accepts the job, this is your staff for "X-years", do you still want the job? I don't believe in professional sports any team has ever tanked, well since the black Sox series...

And the 2011 Colts. And the '84 Rockets. In fact, it was the Rockets tanking that led to the lottery, which was as legit as a back room craps game.
