Clay Matthews should have won the defensive MVP award. He was edged out by Polamalu who missed several games.

Polamalu isn't even the best safety in his division. Ed Reed is a much better player in my book. I think Reed led the league in INT's and seemed like he only played about 6 games.

Troy did not play a good game, and he took 100% credit for the loss.

But to say Troy is overrated is IMO, ridiculous. The fact that every team the Steelers play against must account for him and game plan against him proves otherwise.

Whatever, maybe that DPOY was also influenced by the fact the guy is of stellar character off the field.

Hard for me to believe he was the recipient of the NFL Defensive POY. Watched him make really bad plays on 2 of GB's TDs. That secondary led by him might have been the reason GB only ran the ball 9 times. He is disruptive, without a doubt, but ..... he is right up there with Adrian Wilson on pass defending skills. :D

Reading this article, Packers game planned for him.

Nope he is not. One game does not make a player.

I wasn't asking, solely because of his performance last night. GB knew if they didn't run the ball, he would have to play off the LOS, where he would be mediocre. It worked. That is his weakness, which I think has always been there.

Polamalu is a flat out stud and was arguably the most dominant defender in football for the first 12 weeks of the season. They were talking about just that last night on ESPN radio.

The guy has been playing at about 70% with ankle and Achilles problems for the last 5 to 6 weeks. It affected him big time yesterday in both his explosiveness and his ability to cut. He being the class guy he is would never use it as an excuse though.

He is definitely not overrated!

I don't think he is overrated at all. You can certainly make a case for Matthews being the POY or Reed being better at the position, but neither makes him overrated in my opinion. I've seen Polamalu make to many back-breaking plays to think so. As an aside, he had some great postgame comments after a loss.

I will say this:

it was interesting on the Jennings TD to see him do the same thing AW has been doing with regularity.

I wonder if AW has become a guesser trying to make a big play instead of playing his coverage

I'd trade AW straight up for him!

To answer the question, no he is not.

Has anyone else noticed how bad Polamalu is at tackling?

He is as good as his coaching, putting him in positions to make plays. He will make them.

Troy is far from overrated. He didn't have that great of a game yesterday, but he's been pretty solid thus far his whole career. He's also been playing pretty banged up, sore achilles an all.

No he isn't overrated. He gets dinged up because he isn't that big ala Bob Sanders, but on a defense that includes James Harrison, Lamar Woodley, Casey Hampton, and Lawrence Timmons, teams game plan around Troy. That should tell you all you need to know.

Also, he's probably be the classiest football player in the game today.

Ah, stats always tell the full story...

Injury has been a big issue, and it's certainly interesting that Troy has chosen this off season to finish his degree in History...considering he has stated from the time he was at SC that he wishes to be a teacher.

Some fortunate school in San Diego may claim they have a former NFL star teaching history on their staff, sooner than one would think.

The first sentence of the article you linked to provides insight to the answer to your question -
"The Green Bay Packers spent the past two weeks trying to figure out how to neutralize" <Troy Polomalu>.

and it was easy. Throw the ball. That was the game plan. He can't cover. He is 1/2 safety. He is America's darling. If Jones and Jordy Nelson would have caught those drops that game would have been a blowout. He was 3 steps behind every play. They went after a weakness.

At his level it's almost impossible to not be overrated but he's actually one of the guys I don't think really is. When he's healthy he's really good. He had some issues in the SB but everyone does.

The first one to Jennings he was right there with a huge hit the guy just held on. the 2nd one to Jennings was on him he just guessed wrong, but then the only reason Nelson didn't score prior to that was Troy chased him out of bounds.

I think he's a much better player than Wilson at this stage.
