he said hes not out to injure, just to hurt. Makes perfect sense and I am all for it. Every defensive player in football would agree.
It's the NFL, not some fairy league,
because #24 does the same damn thing every game and we all love him.
So do you advocate the removal of all personal foul penalties? Can we bring back head slaps, leg whips, crackback blocks, spearing, etc.
Look back at when Chuck Cecil was fined a record $30k for his hits .... pretty much the same debate was going on - what is illegal, how much of a penalty is appropriate, isn't this football, it's supposed to be physical, guys don't have enough time to think about hitting someone properly, it's all reaction .... something against the rules, but maybe not strictly enforced where it eventually became "enough's enough"
come out with record fines with a promise of future suspensions
You don't see the type of spearing hit with the crown of the helmet as much these days and the game is more popular than ever ... players adjust and fans get over it
while many cheered cecil it was bad for the players and bad for the game
much like this latest round
I have never seen anything like the hit Harrison put on that WR. That was dangerous for both players, and stupid.
Play a contact sport, any contact sport, and they teach you the correct way to tackle for a reason.
A REAL athlete can pull it off within the rules, and using discipline and technique.
I see your point 187, and that this is a violent game. I love the violence as well. But there is a point.
First, Najeh Davenport, now Harrison!
TMI.
I am by no means advocating illegal hits, personal fouls being removed, etc. All I am saying is that what Harrison said is not moronic, it's what defensive players get paid to do. You are out their to punish the opposing players, you aren't trying to end careers but you want them to remember that last hit you put on them when they ran the ball or went over the middle for a catch. There's nothing illegal about hitting someone as hard as possible if you are using proper tackling form and that's what guys like AW, Ray Lewis, etc do when they play (for the most part).
I was not advocating any of his hits in Cleveland's game, just agreeing with the statement he made assuming he or anyone else is playing inside the rules. Again, there's nothing wrong with hitting a guy as hard as you can on every play if you aren't head hunting, etc. Harrison is a dirty player (at times), but I'd kill to have him at OLB on our team.
I'm not surprised by his comments. What do you expect from an idiot that let his 2 year-old son play with his pit bull. I hope the kid heals up and has a normal life.
Your not out there to injure players either. Saying so is 100% moronic!
