Too bad ARZ doesn’t have big boy money like BOS & NY. NYY are most likely going to end up with Corbin and some other big market team will sign away Pollock if he comes back healthy. While ARZ goes with an aging Greinke and a bunch of other guys.

There is nothing stopping ARI from making a KC type run of two consecutive WS appearances with the right acquisition of cheap talent with the occasional strategic spending splash on FA market.

The Org doesn't appear to believe in the process to make this happen and has for decades wallowed in lower mediocrity with retreads and consistently abandoned plans.

That said, I do have more faith in the current FO than I have in many of the previous iterations that we've been forced to live with.

Big difference is KC drafted a lot of their talent and acquired good prospects in trades to build up that farm. ARZ doesn’t have anyone on the farm to make this team better. Injuries are to blame for what happens next but now would be a great time to have a great farm system to bring up talent but no one is ready.

I believe that's what I said. :)
Everything except draft well. Last year they look to have gotten 3 guys who could be contributors in 3 years (Pavin Smith, Daulton Varsho & Drew Ellis) as long as they keep them. Duplantier looks legit but I think he is trade bait in case Hazen goes into panic mode and uses him to bring in a piece to try and salvage their playoff hopes.

JD would probably still be a Diamondback if that idiot Stewart had not signed Tomas to that terrible contract.

It’s just Murphy’s Law right now for AZ. Down 2 SPs, key injuries to Lamb & Pollock and Goldy looking like an A Ball player. Can’t really say Souza not panning out so far is a disappointment, with the exception of HRs, his numbers are on par with his career numbers. He has always hit at a low BA and struck out a lot. The only reason people were excited was because of his WAR but could it be that TB OFs were terrible compared to him? If you and some scrubs play the same position and your team as a whole wine more when your in the lineup that stat is flawed IMO because how many of those wins were because of you actually. Maybe most of his starts were when Archer was pitching that day or your team played or you played against really bad teams and won not necessarily because of you.

And Yasmani Tomas is having the last laugh while lounging in the Minor Leagues.
yup. i've said it before, i don't think he really cares that he's in reno, either. he got his pay day. he's a putrid hitter in a very hitter's friendly PCL

How many more years they have to pay this guy?

What can it hurt bringing him up at this point? Peralta is horrible right now also.

J.D. Martinez grew under Paul Goldschmidt, wanted D-backs return
“I loved it. I really did, I wanted to come back. It was something that I told my agent I was definitely up for. Obviously it’s a business and things don’t work out. I found a home in Boston and I couldn’t be happier.”

Was it the money?

The Diamondbacks had interest in re-signing Martinez, too, especially after the year he had. Yet with Paul Goldschmidt’s contract ending after the 2019 season, it was assumed Arizona general manager Mike Hazen would be cautious adding too much salary.

Asked why a return to the D-backs didn’t happen, Martinez could only laugh on Friday.

“Go talk to Hazen,” he said. “I don’t know.”
