At least they didnt also change the BS where the touchback starts at the 25 yard line.

This is going to have a dramatic effect on players like Brad Smith, Josh Cribbs, Devin Hester and even our own LSH.

The change sucks. Why fix something that wasnt broken in the first place?

On the replay side of things, all scoring plays will now be subject to a replay by the booth, which no longer means that coaches need to feel concerned with throwing their red flags on an issue that occurs near the goal line.

Like.

On the radio they were saying that the players on KO coverage will no longer be able to line up more than 5 yards behind the kicker prior to kicking it off now. The intent is to reduce the amount of speed players can attain and reduce the violent collisions that are occuring on KO returns supposedly.

I don't buy it personally. Part of the NFL's move to enhance player safety.

The No Fun League just doesnt get it...It's football!!! People are going to get hurt & they just took part of the 3rd part of winning games out of the league...special teams. Put on the flags or 2 hand touch & be done with it.

I really believe the owners & competition committee are using this to help help in getting 18 games..."see players we're trying to protect you from less injury" Total BS IMO & this game is going to keep losing fans the more they take away from the sport that everyone loves. Too many crazy ass rules, wanting more games on foreign soil, a player lockout...this game is spiraling downward IMO.

I personally think it sucks. Gonna be way to many TB's and the game as a whole will be less exciting.

I agree. Now we're back to the way it used to be. Someone scores, 5 minutes of commercials, kick a touchback, another 5 minutes of commercials, and then finally some actual football is played.

One plus is for those that can go to games, at least you can hit the head now and not worry about missing anything.

Now we can keep more LB's, Olineman, and Dlineman. Why not just get one badass kicker who can kick touchbacks 90% of the time and let the backups do the running?

Interesting consequence of this rule change IMO is that it will increase the number of onside kicks. The risk of onsiding just dropped by 5 yards. Now teams are getting the ball at about the 45 instead of 40 if you don't convert, meaning they will have to get a first down to be in FG range.

As a Packer fan, I love it. The Bears will never win another game :D

As an NFL fan I hate it. Kickoff returns are one of the most exciting parts of the game.

This is stupid.

Why don't they just eliminate the kickoff altogether and just place the ball on the 20 yard line?

Will kickers really fire every ball through the back of the end zone though? Won't we see some teams kicking the ball higher and allowing their teammates who are now 5 yards closer to get the tackle further back?

Totally agree.

Guess no one will win a house this year. Stupid rule change.

Interesting point. Will be watching for that this season, if/when the season starts.
